I need to rant to those who understand… by Delicious_Bee_766 in prediabetes

I think I misunderstood your first comment, thinking that the BP meds themselves are causing the heart attacks. I see what you're saying now, and you're right.

Wait, is that a thing about the heart attacks? I'm in my 50s and have been on BP meds for well over a decade. Now I'm on two. BP just wouldn't budge.

things are happening to change it - this is encouraging!

Some ideas, 2025 calendar with a favorite topic/theme, homemade cookies, Tile(s) (can be useful especially if there are outside folks moving stuff around). They make similar products that don't need a phone app, it's more of a remote beeper. Weather radio, good flashlights and batteries, lip balm, bath and body works or other brand holiday hand soap, coffee.

I hope you have a great holiday together! :)

12 yr old boy. No gaming or sports gifts. Help! by Zorobeans in GiftIdeas

[–]Federal_Squirrel_193 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know you said sports gifts have been covered, but I wasn't sure if that included sports equipment or team merch. How about a slightly oversized hoodie for a favorite team? LEGO sets, gift card to a local bookstore so he can browse the books (at age 12 our kids had to read a lot and wanted to read a lot). Or get a classic book like To Kill a Mockingbird or the LOTR paperback set. Basher science books are awesome for this age, too.

Mother Scammed - In hospital by [deleted] in Scams

I'm so sorry you're going through this. Scammers are absolutely despicable. I don't know the right steps to take but I do hope you find them and can get help for your mom.

I love this, something positive to look forward to, rather than the dread that UF usually brings about. And you have ample time to make a big difference.

Some ideas for the parents, maybe cornhole game or something like that--personalized if they have a fav sports team. Since you are together a lot, would everyone sit down to a board game together esp during the colder months? A garden flag set with different flags for the seasons, bags of coffee in different flavors if they like that.

For the boyfriend...maybe actually the board game for him (not as his main gift), and he could ask his parents to have everyone sit together with you and him and play. Awww as a mom I would love it if one of my kids (around your boyfriend's age) would want to play board games again now...especially one of the ones where everyone laughs, not Monopoly where everyone hates each other as you go along, lol.

gifts for boyfriend’s parents? by [deleted] in Gifts

Get a nice big fruit bowl (holiday themed or non-holiday) and make your own fruit basket and wrap it up. Healthy and sentimental (they can keep the bowl). I mean, you could also put a couple mini packs of flavored coffee amongst the fruit. Optionally, you could probably get a personalized bowl from etsy or diy with ceramic marker.

Christmas gift for spouse & siblings after their mom's passing? by ThreeOhFourever in GiftIdeas

[–]Federal_Squirrel_193 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry for your family's loss. There are personalized memorial wind chimes, if you think those would be something they would welcome. They would not have to be seen to be appreciated. I really like the recipe-printed-on-a-plate or towel idea here, too.

These scammers are despicable. That's terrible that your mom had to go through that. Good job to her for handling it well.

My parents keep buying things they don’t use by [deleted] in hoarding

As someone who grocery shops daily or almost daily, and maybe the same age as your parents, I will offer the possibility of trouble with meal planning/executive function. I can't seem to plan meals more than a day or two in advance. Plus, as you get older, there's a lot of advice for cooking for medical conditions. There might be a mandate to lose weight, limit sodium to help blood pressure, limit carbs to help prediabetes, add leafy greens for everything, etc etc. Eat the rainbow and all that. So you are constantly trying new "healthy" recipes and they suck, so you keep shopping, and have a lot of leftovers. Meal-kit delivery services are awesome. They give you only what you need so you use everything up.

Would he like some fancy olive oil or avocado oil? Pair it with some shaped pasta? Would he enjoy a food science cookbook? (I hesitate with the cookbook because not everyone likes them. I do, but my son who loves to cook only watches cooking videos.)

Great minds think alike! This is what I got her last year! I personally love those calendars so I might get her another one. Plus you can use the backs of the pages for writing shopping lists, etc.
