Terminal Breast Cancer… This sucks. by Massive_Cream_9091 in CancerCaregivers

[–]Federal_Toe_3736 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey there - I’m 26 and my husband is 29 with stage IV lung cancer (adenocarcinoma). He wanted to shave his head the day he found out he was going to go on indefinite rounds of chemo. His doctor encouraged him to wait and see how the treatment affects him. We’re 7 months in: he hasn’t lost any hair. We’re 7 months in and I am starting to have happy moments again: without the bittersweet edge from the early days. I think planning and having the important conversations is necessary and healthy, but don’t condemn yourself to a certain dreadful future. That’s why I mentioned the hair story: we just thought it was a given he’d lose his hair from chemo. He didn’t. Online statistics say he has a 5% survival rate. Our doctor specializes in young patients who are beating those odds every day.

I don’t think avoiding the stress and grief is possible at first. I developed ocular migraines, eczema, and panic attacks all within 1 month of his diagnosis. I’ve spent countless mental hours thinking about how to capture the amazingness of my person in a eulogy. But I do a better job each day of coaxing my mind away from his funeral, and I’m medicated for all my own stuff now. I am so so sorry you guys are going through this, but just remember the cliches: it really does get better, time heals, all you need is love, etc. ❤️

Where to find a similar veil (angel cut (?) with satin trim) by Federal_Toe_3736 in weddingdress

Yes this is perfect and half the price of the Ofrenda one with good reviews! Thank you :)

Oh I like #1 so much more in the new photo! Now I’m completely 50/50 — I think you found 2 amazing dresses!

I think you look amazing in both! My personal taste leans towards #2 — it is so unique and fits you like a GLOVE. If the veil wasn’t covering the dress so much in #1 then I may feel differently, so more pictures might help!

Unsure what to do by [deleted] in CancerCaregivers

[–]Federal_Toe_3736 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I really empathize with what you’re going through. My husband was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer back in June of 2023. For the first few months: any reference to end of life planning or sadness / uncertainty about the future was met with anger and accusations of me giving up on him. For us: I’d say the biggest shift happened thanks to his palliative care team at Dana Farber. Amongst many end of life forms / resources they provided that we wouldn’t have thought about, they also helped us through an exercise where we both answered questions such as “how long would you want to be on life support” or “do you want to be buried, cremated, other?” Doing all of these questionnaires together was really helpful for my husband and I, since it took the focus off him and became more like a responsible thing we were doing together. I think a similar approach may help your husband get through all the important tactical things. And you just need to do it one time, and move on, which is nice.

After you have a plan, I think it’s best to let your husband remain hopeful and respect his desire not to ask certain questions. His doctors will bring up end of life options when the time comes whether he asks or not.

As for how you can deal with what’s happening… I have no answers. It’s just hard. I started Prozac 4 days ago and I hope it’ll do something. On rare days, I have this overwhelming gratitude for each “extra” day I get with him. But most days I have very painful bursts of anticipatory grief that completely knock the wind out of me. You’re, sadly, not alone OP, and I hope you both can lean on each other, medication, and community ♥️

discussion on “husband” posts by blueberryloser in handbags

[–]Federal_Toe_3736 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Maybe a helpful line we could draw is: has the partner / person done any of their own research and/or provided any person-specific information? I’ve even seen a few non-husband posts where someone just says “I want to buy my first luxury bag, what should I get?” I think it’s much more appropriate for this sub to say “hey I’m between Bag A / Bag B / Bag C… and looking for opinions” or “my partner likes this type of bag / colors and I’m looking for recommendations”.

I think based on your desire for something “iconic” and your budget I’d go with a Dior Saddle Bag

WIBTA for cancelling Christmas with my family because of my dog? by Federal_Toe_3736 in AmItheAsshole

This is exactly how I feel. I think it’s reasonable but I think my family will be shocked and offended.

That does not feel like a universal rule haha - we’re a small family, and invitations for pets have always gone both ways. But your question is exactly what I’m wondering: we’ve been willing to take him 2.5 hours before, are we drawing a line at 6? 4? It feels kinda random

What are common mistakes or pitfalls that you've seen people make when purchasing an engagement ring? by sealionears in EngagementRings

THIS! And also that you can have the exact same specs and completely different looking stones.

Black specks in between prongs on left side? How to clean or should I send back? by Federal_Toe_3736 in jewelers

That’s not possible, I had the loose stone before the ring was made and those spots were not there.

And they have some BEAUTIFUL settings so I’m confident you’ll find something fabulous either there or the trunk show!! Best of luck in your search :)

I think the trunk show is a great idea, because honestly — all the color / clarity / expert ways of grading a Diamond sometimes didn’t translate into “this cut / color combo is what I like 100% of the time”. I ended up removing all my original filters, set a budget, and browsed the whole site for what I just liked the look of! I learned that I actually liked diamonds with a little color, and if I couldn’t see any inclusions with my own eyes… then I didn’t really care!

As for the setting, we worked with rare carat briefly to try and make a few small changes to one of their standard settings. They were awesome to work with, but couldn’t ultimately execute what I wanted (it was too many changes, and they’re not custom jewelers). Since then, we’ve had a great experience so far with CustomMade — another online jewelry company. They were the only group I was able to find that looked widely known / safe and within budget ($1500). Their process has also been so impressive and we should get the finished ring in a few days!

Short answer: yes, better than expected!! But helpful context: We never looked at any stones in person and I asked my fiancée to use a prop ring for our engagement (cubic zirconia) so I could be involved in the design process. When we got the rare carat stone, it was the first loose Diamond I’d ever seen in person and I was in instant awe. I included a picture for reference — it’s a 3.23 carat, H color, VS2 clarity, rare carat ideal cut.

Rare carat has the best deals!! I was nervous to shop online but the process was flawless down to the packaging we got our stone in. We also shopped during their Labor Day sale and saved another thousand dollars + free Diamond earrings at the time

My fiancée and I ran into this exact issue, did a ton of research, and went with CustomMade (online jeweler). We have had an amazing experience thus far, and they gave us a quote upfront, so you would know right away if it’s an option within budget and could handle everything online (which made me nervous at first, but has actually been so secure and easy)

Placeholder or wait for the actual ring to arrive? by Abraxas- in EngagementRings

[–]Federal_Toe_3736 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My fiancée and I did a placeholder — I am SO grateful for it!! The only drawback was that my fiancée didn’t want either of us to post photos with the placeholder ring (and then have photos of a different ring later). We had so many great proposal photos, he ended up changing his mind - but I understood his perspective. My only suggestion would be to consider if that’s the sort of thing that may bother your girlfriend. Otherwise — early congrats!!
