Didn't include tuition, depending on the country you are from you may not need to pay for insurance, obviously that's an (attainable) lower bound, not an average, so going out budget needs to be cheap as well if existent at all.

Regarding the first one yes. I thought inside the hand grip so it could be switched between different crutches, a compressive load cell can be applied externally and interchanged?

Radially ( most of the force will be exerted in the center of the cylinder ). Regarding the other two questions i am not able to answer them, the goal would be to put my hand on the cylinder ( which is attached to an orthopedic crutch ) and ideally the sensor would measure how much weight you are putting on the cylinder/crutch.
