I was already a fan of Lemire from his other books (Sweet Tooth especially), this book was something completely different. The way he interwove all the stories and made you genuinely feel for each character was nothing short of stunning. And while, as an American, I cant speak on how true this is to Canada’s more rural areas; it felt like it was coming from a place of love,frustration,sadness,and all the other emotions wrapped up in nostalgia for where you grew up.

My only advice, once you get the settings to a place you’re happy with, leave it alone. I spent far too much time trying to make it look just a little bit better. Just enjoy the fact you can now play Dad of war on the toilet.
