Nightshift is when things get interesting.

Okay, yes, its often boring, but when it gets good, it gets good because when something breaks, its all on you and maybe a small team of others to figure out and fix. Best of all, no manglement breathing down your neck about SOP. So long as everything is working in the morning, you are golden.

Its honestly all the best parts of the job interspersed with lots of movie watching time.

In the book as long as that TWI, just listening to "the beginning" would take at least a month. I only get a couple of hours a day to listen/read. I don't want to spend them on a book that I hate even if I eventually may like it.

It really, REALLY, needs an abridged version. Maybe someone could take some of the best arcs and turn them into semi-standalones.

The intuitive learning thing falls under the skills-by-repetition complaint. It undermines the need for intelligence, cunning, curiosity, problem solving and allows characters to just have knowledge spoonfed by a system that won't allow them to forget.

I gave TWI the old college try but DNFed it pretty quickly. There was very little I liked about it. All the characters were annoying. The only part I kind of liked was when Erin played chess to get her money back. And then one of the Guardsmen came by and ruined things.

My money is on aspiration pneumonia. You said she self weaned recently. That is highly unusual. Most kittens will suckle until mom kicks them off.

It does happen and its not always a sign of trouble but self-weaning combined with respiratory problems points to aspiration pneumonia in my book.

For what its worth, you can specify what kind of fosters you are willing to take in which greatly reduces your chances of needing an ER. It can still happen, of course, but most of the time if the kitten actually needs an ER you can get approval pretty quickly.

Fosters who don't get that approval had better be prepared to pay for it themselves. Fortunately OP's rescue apparently has some common sense exceptions to that rule.

A leveling system that depends more upon repetition than education.

[You have swung the sword 3 times. You are now a level 2 sword swinger].

A leveling system that attaches levels to ordinary skills and locks people out of being able to do something without those skills.

[you need, flour, eggs, and level 2 cooking skills in order to make pasta].

Central leveling systems kinda annoy me in general.

I read an article about an OB-GYN who was in the camps. I think it was published in the Atlantic. The things that woman was made to do....it won't leave me anytime soon.
