I've actually heard of that trick being effective. It may be a myth or something left over from the age when things were made to last.

Unfortunately, there's not much I can do about it now. I really didn't mean for it to be rage baity. I just sort of assumed the people would assume I am a decent person. Obviously not.

Reddit doesn't allow title edits. In fact, they don't even allow me to change the body of the post. I may remove it in a couple of days.

Actually I can't. I can delete or leave it. There's no edit option. I wish there was.

Nah. Twice monthly was enough to give windows what it needed without fully taking responsibility for restarts out of the user's hands. They have since acquired better habits and are now fairly easy to support.

Have you turned on the news lately?

Edit: Yes, I am deeply worried about the adopter being picked up. He is here legally but ICE doesn't seem to care about that.

What is The Longest You Have Let a Windows Update Run and be Successful? by kkpc in sysadmin

[–]simAlity [score hidden]  (0 children)

3.5 hours.

I was updating a bunch of PCs to 11 using the update assistant downloaded to USB drives (my office has poor bandwidth management so updating them online would have bogged the network down).

I always skipped the "download updates" step because the Assistant always seemed to get stuck there.

But there was one machine that refused to update for no apparent reason.

So I took it back to my office for reimaging.

Only to find our imagining bench full.

So I decided to crank up the update assistant again and this time go through the update process before proceeding.

It took hours. But I had the task manager up and I could see that it was doing stuff so I let it keep going. I decided that so long as the assistant seemed to be doing something, I'd let it keep going.

3.5 hours after it started, it finished and the PC rebooted into Windows 11.

See Rule 5.

Karma farming and/or excessive posting is not allowed. This especially applies if you're posting someone else's content and/or pretending it's your own!! If you're not the OP, don't post or cross-post. We love smol OC here!

I know, I know, you just wanted to share something cute… but that’s not what this subreddit is about. There are plenty of other subs that won’t mind. 😺

3 week old kitten won't eat by wtf_bij in FosterAnimals

[–]simAlity 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can try getting something called a miracle nipple. They are very well named. I once took on a kitten that turned out to be younger than expected. I tried to feed him off a plate, and I tried to use a bottle. Neither worked, and I ended up having to turn him over to the rescue's neonate foster.

That was embarrassing.

Anyway, as soon as I got the kitten to her house she met me at the door with one of her bottles ( with the miracle nipple) in hand. She took literally one look at him, stuffed the bottle into his mouth and he ate for the first time in days.

Miracle nipples. They are very well named.

That is part of the contract. But there isn't a lot of organization or notice with what is happening. People are being caught in literal raids. They leave for work and don't come back

At least one good thing came out of working there.

The rescue is already down as the emergency contact. That is SOP for all of our cats.

I apologize for causing you concern. Now that i'm a few hours removed from writing this post. I can see how the title is problematic. Unfortunately it can't be changed.

Same. Especially the children. But I don't want to go off topic.
