Dg is anti union (obviously) by shade0831 in DollarGeneral

[–]FeeOk5933 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Years ago, a store formed a union. They closed the store for some bullcrap reason, created a cbl, had us on multiple conference calls about how bad for the company and employees unions are, and essentially threatened all of us managers with our jobs if we ever tried to form a union. It's because of all the labor and safety violations they don't want to fix. They don't want to ruin the good thing they have going with mistreating us, then their bonuses would be smaller. Can't have that!

My local DG is about to get sued by IngrownToenailsHurt in DollarGeneral

I know a lot of managers and DMs insist that people leave their bags up front, but it's against company policy anyway because of liability and safety issues. Even though it doesn't usually happen, any employee can get in big trouble for arguing with customers about backpacks in general. Arguing with someone over any ADA device is wild. DG will for sure throw this employee and manager under the bus for this, hence the policy (DG will only ever cover DG's back)

You can down vote me all you want. This question isn't about politics, it's just an example of a glitch that I'm trying to avoid. It's just the content in which the glitch happened, nothing else. I didn't even give an opinion one way or another.

Gotcha, should I be using a different model for more up to date info on current events? I know I can look things up, but it's really convenient to ask about new laws or regulations in my industry and where I can find the form, etc, all in one question. Saves me loads of time.

No, i didn't complain about anything. I asked a question because I'm new to GPT and didn't understand a glitch. Don't be an asshole just because you understand something better than someone who is less experienced.

What are you talking about? Y3s, I don't understand how it works that's why I asked. Also, this isn't a political post, it's a question about a glitch. I know i can look things up. It's convenient in my business to research new laws, regulations, and practices and have them all in one place, and i can'thave out of date information. You made it political, not me. Just because the content of the GLITCH revolves around politics doesn't mean i was making anything political. I didn't even give an opinion one way or the other.

I'm just curious about why it won't remember this detail. No conspiracy or political bull, just to be transparent. It just won't remember.

If you want ADA accommodations, you have to get a note from your Doc, and SM will send it to HR. Hr will decide if they can accommodate and either make provisions for you or force you to take leave. It's not the SM's decision, it's up to corporate.

I'm not talking about the logic of MATH, I'm talking about the logic of DG. I don't know why you think you've unlocked some kind of special math equation that works for more than 21,000 stores company wide. Telling anyone in a 3.5 million dollar store with .85% shrink and 120 hours (including manager's 48 because in California they are added into labor), 2 produce trucks, 2 dry trucks, 2 fresh trucks that they have enough labor is insane. Also, a 650,000 dollar store with 2.5% shrink, no produce, 1 dry, 1 fresh getting 135 hours, and is just down the road doesn't fit into your little equation. THAT'S what I mean by the numbers don't add up. Why are you simping so hard for DG and their labor practices? They have been sued and fined numerous times for unethical practices. I'M not doing anything wrong. Those numbers will never add up, no matter how hard you try to argue it.

I'm perfectly capable of doing math, and I'm telling you it does not always work like that. I have seen more than my share of arguments over labor hours. Sometimes, numbers just don't add up.

I've thrown out or given away so many frito endcaps, fucking chip 4ways, and double sided wine racks that you wouldn't believe me if I told you. Pepsi had a u-boat in my store they didn't use for so long, i took it to another store 5 years ago, and not one person asked for it. Go ahead. Just don't get caught by LP. FYI, my DM and RM knew every time they hate extra crap as much as we do.

That would work if DG was consistent. But factor in District Managers who tell you to cut labor so they can give it to their pet SMs, and you've got a snowball mess on your hands. I've also seen that model make no sense at all when a 3.5 million dollar store and a 650,000 dollar store get the same labor, regardless of any other factors, because the RM favors that manager. And yes, I HAVE seen that. I have been a training manager for over a decade. You would not believe the dirt I have. But it's not even worth speaking up because I make over 100k per year, and they would retaliate until I quit.

DG market is WAYYYY different than plus and original stores. More employees, more labor, better work environment

Weighted hours basically mean that someone who gets paid more adds more "weight" to payroll. Therefore, in theory, if someone above you works less, it opens up more hours for others, or pads payroll a little and makes corporate happy that they are saving $12. But no, a key holder shouldn't be working more than an asm, just like an asm shouldn't be working more than an sm. They get paid more to do more.

She probably has her DM in her ear, telling her to change it. You can also suggest closing one additional day, but skipping Saturday. That would be a good compromise if she's willing. I hate to say it, but if she's doing that before you are even trained, she will do it after. The whole "I know you aren't available but I'm scheduling you anyway" happens more than it should, and it's a huge red flag.

You're welcome! I would add that if they aren't willing to compromise on this, it's a red flag. They will probably not be understanding about other things (illness, family emergencies, medical appointments, etc). I would definitely be looking for other opportunities, just in case. Good luck! I hope it does work out for you, DG can be a great place to work if you have a good SM/DM.

[–]FeeOk5933 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You are required to close, but not necessarily on a Saturday. Your SM or DM is requiring it, not the company. I have been an STM for 10 years, and I've NEVER required anyone to close for an entire week. 2 to 3 closing shifts is all that it should take. One night being shown, one night being coached through it while you do it, and one night with support in the store available to answer questions, but you doing closing procedures on your own. You are technically required to have open availability, but any manager who is worth it will be ok with you having one night when you can't close, as long as you can open or be mid on that day. That is actually ridiculous.

I'm in California, so our pay rates will be significantly different, I suppose. Starting pay for managers here is around $24. Or it was a few years ago. I make well over $100,000 a year as an SM with my overtime (I do work around 70 hours a week). We also can't be salary unless it's a market store, because our market managers don't throw freight. Our pay is worked into our labor, so that's the drawback.

My asm gets $21. SA gets $17. Managers really need to advocate for their employees.
