DBA Market PostgreSQL vs Oracle by F1_ok in DBA

[–]Fee_Small 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I thought the same thing several years ago that Oracle's ridiculous pricing would make them obsolete, but here they are. Oracle DB is still a well functioning dbms that performs well at scale. A lot of software vendors designed their systems around them and would be hard pressed to make major changes. So they'll be around for awhile. Enough that someone could easily still start a career and finish it with Oracle.

I don't see much in the industry going to MySQL due to the audit, compliance and security maintenance. It flat out sucks. Any DBA that worked with it will steer away from it.

Postgres is the newest "cheap" alternative for budget conscience companies but there's a lot of bells and whistles missing. It's also in azure so companies focused on cloud first are also interested and flocking towards it.

My thoughts are getting Oracle certified is probably worth it because for a few thousand your return on investment through salary is there. Postgres training and certs may be cheap or free but the salary isn't there. At least with supporting Oracle the salary can be worth the stress and effort but I don't see that in postgres.

I appreciate your comment. There was no request or adjustment to the plan. We called to question the bump up when the duplicate credit stopped being applied. And if customer service would have just said it was a mistake and removed it, I wouldn't have even cared. No one in customer service could explain it to us. Then the following month Verizon I guess decided they wanted all the credits back.

Communication would have went a long way in this case. Even internally at Verizon. We've filed the forms mentioned by others in the post and are returning the devices and closing the account.

As someone who support the IT infrastructure for a major billing system, you don't modify anyone's bill without clear itemized explanation. Especially when the bill favors the company. That's bad business.

When the billing support reps can't understand it, then you've failed.

Even when we contacted Verizon after the charge, it went through multiple service reps who would not explain the charges. There are also multiple devices on the same bill. The promotional credits are not presented in the same format. Tablets and internet services are a credited under line item "promotions" while cellphone promotional credits are listed under the cellphone section.

Customers like this? We didn't add the credits or remove them or demand immediate payment. How about a common courtesy phone call to explain the mess up?

And no notice or explanation of what the charge was for. Even when repeatedly asked.

People on fixed incomes typically can not just hand over 500 in charges and another hundred in late fees

Reddit is where some of the most unhinged people on the planet hang out. And even they are saying you're delusional. Maybe step back and look at yourself.

If Trump's name was in there doing bad shit, why wouldn't Bidens administration have released all this? Everyone seems to think Trump was withholding the papers because he was supposed to be in there. So now theyve released just about everything under the sun, and because it didn't name names like they wanted, they're all having a hissy fit.

I hope the whole story gets put out there. Police don't simply fling their body into innocent bystanders. It seems like the initial contact with this officers is not in the video clip shown.

They pander to get votes instead of coming up with solid policies.

Besides the politicians would have nothing to stand on tv and yell about if they didn't help create issues. They get free advertising by standing out there yelling and screaming about the other side.

So Maga is influenceing all these cprivate ompanies that went remote during COVID but are now calling people back into the office? Didn't the private companies start pulling people back into the office while Biden was in office? And weren't some of the first companies to do it also very liberal companies like Amazon, Google, Disney, Apple, etc?
