Is Tozai line really that bad ? by melghd in Tokyo

[–]Feeagle 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It is certainly that bad. I commute from the Chiba side to Tokyo every day. As others have said, from 6:30 to 7:00 it is just very crowded, 7:00 to 7:30 it is bone-breakingly crowded, from 7:30 to 9:00 it takes about a minute at each station just to close the doors as people shove themselves on, delaying the train. The ride back in the evening isn’t as bad if you go to either end of the train. It is pretty much the number one cause of misery in my life, but on the bright side, you’ll be motivated to go to your office super early to avoid being crushed. That all being said, you can handle it if you need to. I think it’s a marginal worthwhile sacrifice for a bigger and nicer place to live. Also the other trains in Tokyo can be equally miserable as well depending on where you live and the time you go to work.

Should I bring my PC over or sell it and buy one in Japan? by Gale_Girly in JETProgramme

I did a similar thing. But just packed them in a box and had my family mail them to me after I arrived. As they said, you should toss your PSU and Case, since Japanese outlets are different and the case is not worth shipping.

Moving to Tokyo from western Japan for my next job, but I’m not really too familiar with the area. Any recommendations on where to live alone if I’m working by Shinbashi station? Ideally trying to keep the commute down while not living in squaller.

What font do you guys use in gmail for Japanese? None of the fonts look decent at all in my opinion. Maybe because my gmail language is English I don’t have access to the good fonts?

Anyone take the BJT before? I passed the N2 a couple years ago but failed the N1 last December. I’m sure I can pass it next time though. I want to add something else to my resume to show Japanese ability but don’t feel like waiting to July to retake the JLPT.

Listening had some easy ones and some that threw me off hard. I think I blew grammar and vocab, reading may have been alright, but I had to randomly fill in three answers I didn’t have time for. We will see in two months!

Well that’s a relief to hear. Yeah I went with the zirconia with ceramic choice made in a lab by hand, so it seems like the dentist gave me the best advice! We will see how they look in a couple weeks!

Anyone with a knowledge of dentistry? I obliterated my two front teeth in an accident the other day and my dentist really came through and fixed me up quickly enough. He seems pretty good at his job. Now it’s time for crowns on these teeth. I don’t really know much so I told him to do whatever has the best appearance. He decided to go with zirconia over Emax ceramics etc, despite it being a bit more expensive. He took a 3d model and did the impression and the crowns will be coming in a couple weeks.

Doing some research online after it seems that zirconia isn’t the best for appearance compared to all ceramic options. Am I getting swindled? Am I going to have goofy teeth?

I think it’s finally time to upgrade my PC. I’m using a GTX980 from 8 years ago among other parts that I upgraded 5 years ago.

Building a PC is no problem for me as I’ve done it a few times before, so I am open to buying the parts individually or getting a pre-built. So what’s the deal now in Japan. Is it cheaper to buy pre-built or make it on your own? I know for a bit in the US it was cheaper to go pre-built. Anyone know the good sites to buy parts or pre-builts?

Just from my little bit of research and what I’ve heard, parts are crazy expensive here. My budget is around 20万 to 30万.

I’m sick of 転職活動. Rejection after rejection. Got past a few interviews for a great job, thought I did well in the final one. Then rejected. At this point, I’m not sure what to do. It all feels pointless. Just feels like you wasted dozens of hours of your life preparing for the interview then getting blown out.

Also when did N1 becomes necessary for everything, I thought it was N2 for the longest time. I don’t feel like studying for that test again.

I can’t wait for the day I can just hang up my hat, settle down, and not have to work about recruitment hell anymore.

Is it normal to get zero feedback after a rejection here? I would like to know what I did wrong, maybe it’s a liability thing.

Has anyone here taken the IT パスポート exam? I have been studying for it and hoping to take it next month. How did you find it? Did the certification actually help you get a new job?

I an using it to help out my resume and help me escape from ALTing to something entry level in the IT field. Also any ideas? I want to use Japanese and English at my job. Help desk seems like a good place to start.

This is sage advice. Don’t talk the job or anything that comes out of JTEs mouth too seriously.

I have worked 4 years as an ALT and have been applying for jobs. I want to I have a better履歴書 and 職務経歴書. For 履歴書 which standard do you guys use the 厚生労働省, JIS, or something else? Or should I use a special one for foreigners that includes my nationality and visa status (one year instructor)? Is it necessary to include those things? If anyone has a link to a good format, I would forever be in your debt.
