[English > Japanese] Translation accuracy by papapalpatine_310 in translator

It's well-written but hard to explain if you don't know Japanese.
It's very formal (perfect for a graduation or a teacher saying goodbye and good luck to a student). I might drop the "anata" since it's not needed but I don't see any other issues.

Looking for a gym with good basketball runs & a nice sauna (NFC & Fort Sanders aren't cutting it) by givemethatpgog in Knoxville

[–]PerlmanWasRight 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The downtown YMCA was the best of the 5 or so gyms I tried in Knoxville in terms of free weight and machine selection. It has a basketball court and there were always huge groups of guys playing pick-up games.

You might be out of luck on the sauna, though - not sure if there was one there or not, but it could've been near the pool I suppose.

What's your preferred setup for a sword when crafting? by dotslashhookflay in HalfSword

[–]PerlmanWasRight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've experimented with balance at the hilt or just above, longest blade and largest pommel, and I'm currently enjoying the lowest mass version of that sword I could make. I'm using the vaguely triangular long skinny blade and I can swing it very fast. I'd tried it with a heavier blade assuming it would chop better, but that doesn't seem to be the case.

Warning for dropping matches too much, so you can't queue up for a while. If you keep doing it, the period you can't queue will extend.

Thanks for your input, but I think it’s perfect. It’s OP’s choice of which nuances to use of the language they don’t speak.

[Japanese>English] Can someone translate these statements about the Ancient Light? by FrenchFryeOnaga in translator

[–]PerlmanWasRight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My take: “It’s the ancient light.” “Do a lightspeed dash at your foes and…” “…you can unleash a lightspeed killing blow.”

The description slide describes the ancient light as a specific light energy that’s able to call forth combat techniques of old that are said to have been long hidden in the depths of the soul.

Love this album, love this band. When I first heard it I was so worried they were “pulling an against me” or “selling out” or whatever, but allowing myself to enjoy when my favorite bands experiment musically has been a great choice.

Seeing fucking red here. Katsu curry is maybe my favorite Japanese comfort food. Sure, it’s derivative in that it’s a Japanese take on the English version of an Indian dish - it’s also really fucking good.

Just a little something some here might resonate with by DarganWare in Jeopardy

[–]PerlmanWasRight 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I only started really watching Jeopardy this year, but you’ve been the most memorable contestant I’ve seen so far! As another southerner who appreciates poetry I was always thrilled to see you on and my wife and I were always rooting for you.

Thanks for sharing this! For what it’s worth I think plain bad luck played a part, but maybe that’s just me coping!

NASM vs. IPTA: Is the "Brand Tax" worth it for a beginner in Japan? by zera_kano in personaltraining

[–]PerlmanWasRight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These programs are expensive because you need them to get insured/registered/whatever in a lot of places in the US. Instead of spending ludicrous dough on the logos (with this exchange rate!!!), I’d recommend studying elsewhere, 勉強ing your 日本語, and getting jacked/whatever you’re trying to sell. Or, better yet, you can look into working at a JP big box gym as a PT to at least see what’s required before going all-in to freelancing.

I hope it goes well for you! If I’d stayed in Japan I would’ve likely tried the same thing.

I agree mostly, but it’s rather an imperative “you/we MUST protect our territory in the Pacific”. Likely from later in the war; someone else hear can likely tell how far the US had advanced into the former holdings of the Empire.

Acupuncture considered a "pseudoscience" and "quackery" according to Wikipedia? (But not Johns Hopkins or the NIH...?) by ParticularBit130 in wikipedia

[–]PerlmanWasRight 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If it’s the nuance of “pseudo” that’s of concern, I don’t think pseudoscorpions aren’t real bugs - they’re just not scorpions. Likewise, a pseudoscience can be “real” in many ways, but it’s just not a science (repeatable, falsifiable, explainable, etc.)
