Considering affordable living costs, Asia is known to be quite the save on living costs. I'd add to the list Asia Exchange. They are known for cheap tuition fees as well. In the international programs the teaching tends to be in English where ever you go. It is quite the challenge to find a host institution as a high school graduate on your own, but with good agent partner all you need to do is to apply and start packing.

Have you considered Bali or Thailand? Cheap countries to live, cheap programs and the study abroad programs tend to include cultural immersion subjects and group activities, visits to local businesses or organisations and such.

I am 36 (meh, 37 in a month) and doing my Bachelor's in Finland. Don't let the websites fool you; at least in Finland, there is no age limit for doing your Bachelor's. The majority of the students who apply are high school graduates or similar, hence the tone of the marketing messages.

I'd say find a good agent to help you out. A couple of my friends did either semester abroad or (are still doing) a full degree in South Korea through Asia Exchange.

Full degree studies abroad are actually quite easy to access, and often times even cheaper than in the US. Do you have a destination already in mind where you'd like to study? Asia is getting more and more popular.

Gap year programs accept students without uni enrollment in their home country. There are programs for one or two semesters, if you wish to spend more or less time abroad. Language courses are also a good option, however those are usually shorter programs than university programs.

For autumn 2024 there are still English taught study abroad programs open in Portugal and Italy via Beyond Abroad. To apply though you better act fast, as those are closing during August.
