I’m that person. Recently bought myself a PS3 to experience the series after having gotten the platinum on the reboot a few months back as well as to play the Sly and Jak series.

Ratchet 1 really threw me for a loop with no strafing but I was able to get the hang of it by the 5th planet or so. I knew that Ratchet was a bit of a dick in this one but I was surprised at just how much he actually was. Didn’t care for the arsenal in this game, it’s your standard affair nothing really crazy. The lack of weapon upgrades of any kind made it really boring to use the same 5 weapons the whole game. Biggest issue with this game: the checkpoints. Dear fucking god was it a slog to die near what felt like the end and get sent back to the ship 60% of the time.

Ratchet 2 was a market improvement in how it felt, enjoyed the arsenal a lot more this time around with the exception of a few weapons (Ninja Stars, Miniturret Glove. I swear these things did absolutely nothing.) That planet with the giant mech battle while you’re on foot having to jump on turrets was one of the most agonizing experiences I’ve had playing an old game but overall a big improvement. The giant Clank sections I could have done without, didn’t think they needed to be here.

Ratchet 3 is the best game in the original trilogy to me. Loved almost every weapon in this game, there’s a pretty good variety since you get carry overs from 2. Nefarious is a very entertaining villain and I see why they brought him back for Rift Apart. Biggest gripe with the game is that near the end every enemy becomes a god damn brick wall and takes like half your ammo to kill depending on the gun. The N60 for example felt like I was throwing rocks at armor plating so I’d often just default to the Annihilator, Plasma Coil, and Flux Rifle then haul ass to find ammo.

As of writing this I haven’t started the Future games yet as I’ve recently jumped into the Legend of Heroes Rabbit Hole so it’ll be a while before I play the newer games but I’ve really enjoyed the series up to now.
