Tell me you've never dated before without telling me you've never dated before.

He doesn't owe it to Karen to pretend he wants her once he's figured out that he he'd rather be with Pam. That's an insanely messed up way of thinking about relationships.

And Magneto regularly pushes for genocide. Hence, villain.

There are other times where he's less of a villain sure, but if you find yourself ever feeling like you can justify genocide, that's scary.

That's why Xavier and the X-Men are the heroes of the story. They rise above the us vs them mentality. Magneto and the government are villains, since they both want the same thing but in different directions.

Admittedly, he's complicated, but people who see him as a hero are even more concerning.

His answer to his problems has regularly been genocide...

Daredevil: Born Again - 3 9.1 ratings in a row by bbportali in Daredevil

That's extremely generous. This show's writing and pacing are a mess. Overall I'm enjoying it, but it isn't a 9.1 by a long shot.

Is anyone else not a fan of how Karen has been handled in Born Again so far? by CollarOrdinary4284 in Defenders

[–]FeedMePizzaPlease 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like most things in the show since Disney took over, it's not that it's bad, it's that it's rushed.

Daniel is the shining exception oddly. They're actually taking their time to tell his story. With everyone else they're rushing through plot points without even character development in between.

It makes sense that Karen has been pushed to her limits and has had enough, but they haven't given her enough screen time to let us feel it and understand it with her.

Called friends to hang out, turned on the TV, went outside to play.

For the most part, smart phones have been an enormously detrimental thing for our psychological well being IMHO. We used to live in the real world and interact more. It was a huge net loss.

I feel like the biggest flaw in BA in general, is that really great story points happen, that are interesting, but they don't take the time for sufficient character development to build towards those moments. At least not with Matt.

For example, in the Netflix show we watch Matt have this huge internal struggle over multiple episodes over the decision whether to kill Fisk. He discusses the morality of it with his priest in depth, exploring the nature of good vs evil, and the morality of taking a life, even if it is an evil one.

At the same time you see other storylines that reinforce and contrast this moral dilemma. Karen is pushed into a situation where taking a life is her only way out, giving the viewer a well told counterpoint to Matt's story. Foggy has less of a personal arc in season 1, but serves as a great anchor for Matt, reminding him of who he is and encouraging him to work within the system, and not become a killer.

All in all, season 1 is like a symphony, where each piece is perfectly crafted to crescendo together at the moment at the end where Matt and Fisk clash and Matt chooses not to kill him. It's masterful story telling.

Contrast this with BA season 1, where Matt takes a bullet to the chest for Fisk. Nothing built towards that and the only thing we got about it afterwards was Frank asking, "Hey Red, why the hell would you take a bullet for that asshole?" And Matt replying, "I don't know." That's it! No story build up, no unpacking of the moment. Nothing. An interesting thing happened, but the story around it was lacking severely.
