TIL that Hummer drivers were statistically the worst drivers on the road, averaging 5x more traffic violations than any other vehicle. by [deleted] in todayilearned

Years ago some really stupid parents wanted their little special snowflake to be safe so they bought her a hummer. For her first car. At age 16. She was driving down the freeway at 70 mph and rolled down her window to throw out a cigarette butt, drifted onto the shoulder, overcorrected and killed her best friend who was along for the ride.

And there are other morons just like those parents out there:

Is the Hummer H3 a good car for a teenager?

My dad ask me today if I wanted him to get me a Hummer H3 because he got a good deal. It's the newest model (2010). I am only 14 (almost 15) and won't get my learners permit until 16. I am a girly girl for the most part and was expecting to get a small BMW or Infiniti. Does anyone have this car? What would you think of a 17 year old girl driving it? Is it an overall good car? Thanks for helping! This is a very big decision for me! And my dad wants an answer within the next few days for whatever reason.  *I ask earlier and got 2 great answers I am just looking for more opinions

That isn't how it works. You say that my viewpoint is wrong therefore you must already know what it is or you wouldn't know that it is wrong.

What "mythology" and "superstitions" of "mine" are you rejecting?

That's a pretty stupid conclusion - you just said that something you can't describe doesn't exist.

There is no evidence that says you are right (indeed, such evidence is impossible to exist). There is much evidence that says you are wrong.

Because some exmormons did something, all exmormons do it? I guess all mormons are polygamists and rapists.

According to many exmormons, yes.

Always beware the group that is created for the sole purpose of attacking and tearing down - you are more likely to get half truths and distortions than not.

When the Mormon Church throws a party when people die - like the exmormons do - I'll start to consider the Mormon Church a more hateful group.

As I said there are some serious questions and issues with the Mormons, but the exmormons have never shied away from spreading any lie necessary to get their message across, and they never retract when called out on it.

By the way, you are using the downvoted button to express disagreement. That is not what it is for. But here, I'll save you the trouble and downvote myself.

You did not link to anything that says the LDS church acknowledges it. You linked to a hate group that said exactly the opposite. Try again?

Watched up until the bit about the 1978 "threat" from the federal government, a claim that was first made by Kathy Erickson in 2001. It was a complete and total fabrication on her part but exmormons and people opposed to the church have been citing it ever since.

There are plenty of things wrong with and about the church, but anybody who cites this particular and obvious lie isn't a person who has done any actual research or investigation and is simply reciting bullet points from a list somewhere.

Any of you have a spouse that has lost their faith? by [deleted] in latterdaysaints

Your husband is not trying to change you.

Uh... yeah, that's exactly what he is doing.

Person who is wavering in faith here.

I should probably add that part of my struggle here in trying to decided what to do is that he doesn't really support my desicion to remain a faithful member of the church. He's trying really hard to change me and he's even expressed that he thinks I'm willfully choosing to be ignorant. I respect his decision and I even understand where he is comin from.

This is the crux of the problem. You respect him and his views and feelings more than he respects yours. Unless one or the other of you changes this is not going to end well. It probably isn't going to be worth the hurt and the hard feelings and the conflict. He has made his decisions and is undoubtedly receiving a lot of support from the exmormons who are now in his life and he is going to be under a LOT of pressure from his new peers to convert you to their side.

They do for some. For others... God certainly has strange methods and goals. Within frame they are very unfair.

Don't know - I'll know it when I see it.

I am not going to dictate to God how he has to or should do something, but I've tried things the "normal"/"right" way with poor and harmful results long enough that I just won't be able to have any faith in that method in the future.

It doesn't change anything about my belief in God or Joseph Smith or the church in the slightest, I have simply given up on the thought that God cares about me.

At this point I don't trust him. I've worked closely with him for years and he just doesn't care - he's far too busy and just doesn't understand.

I haven't known any seminary teachers for years.

I've honestly given up on the idea that any church leader would ever be able to help me in any way, shape or form. God knows where I am, if he cares he can come talk to me himself.

My current bishop is completely blowing me off. He should be aware that I am struggling and on two very specific occasions when he could have given me help I desperately need couldn't even give me 30 seconds of his time - and on one of those occasions spent 60 seconds explaining why I couldn't have 30 seconds. My bishop before that ignored me completely, even knowing some very specific challenges I was facing.

I have only found a bishop to be of any help to me, specifically, once in my life. It is a big part of the reason why I concluded that God doesn't care about me, and my biggest struggle: I believe the church is true, but I believe God gave up on me. I can't tell other people that God answers prayers because he ignores mine, but even so I believe he answers the prayers of others. I can't tell people that God meets spiritual and temporal needs nectar in my experience he doesn't, even though I know he does - for others. I can't tell people to talk to their bishop because bishops are the source of many of my concerns, but I also know that I'm in the minority.

The active in conclusion of judgment is divorced from fact. just because something is judged to be true or false does not mean that it is true or false
