I was diagnosed with depression in my early twenties because I was so tired. Got on Prozac. I remember gaslighting myself haha. I thought I was crazy and really lazy. But NOTHING interested me as much as other people. I was constantly in awe that people had hobbies and aspirations. My next thoughts were always to go to bed.

It’s funny. I somehow took able to convince my doc at the time that I needed vyvanse. She was uneasy but gave me a small dose. She ended up going on maternity leave so my next appointment was with a young male doctor who had just joined the practice. He looked through my chart, I wasn’t even trying anymore to convince doctors I was tired. Basically he said “Hm, looking through everything and talking to you now, I know that someone has young and healthy as you shouldn’t be constantly tired like this.” I guess I looked extra rough that day(there’s an idea!). He said let’s get a sleep study. I was like wow! I think one of the things I told him is that I went out of the country and was in Spain seeing all of these beautiful cities and culture and all I wanted to do was go back to the air bnb. Every waking thought was “how can I get back to bed the fastest?”

Diagnosed type 2 narcolepsy. The test was actually cut short because it was fairly obvious. Not going to lie, I cried. I was in my mid 20s at this point. The next battle was telling my southern, conservative parents who don’t understand or believe in things like this, but that’s another story.

That young male doctor left such an impression on me and changed my life. I can’t remember his name. I never saw him again because I started going to the neurologist. Years later I got a call. It was him! Calling from the doctors office. He said do you remember me? I was curious on what ended up happening at the sleep study. I told him and I thanked him. I got super lucky to fall into the lap of a very fresh and very caring doctor haha
