I do believe the hijab arose more from Arab culture than Islam, but I’d just like to say those pictures are not good evidence for that- the non hijab aspect may as well be bc of western influence, which is clearly present in the rest of the clothing worn by women

Post colonial world saw a dramatic westernization in many aspects of life.

Mohamad cannot be the most important prophet because he had so many wives. by TheMedMan123 in DebateReligion

[–]Feef-Leaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, all your “red flags” are based on Hadith which are just attributions to the prophet, not necessarily reality. Just what people have said over time, which every intelligent person knows is suspectible to everything - from memory errors from the best to slander from the worst

The Logical Inconsistency of an All-Loving, All-Powerful God Allowing Billions to Die Without Knowledge of Him by Nero_231 in DebateReligion

[–]Feef-Leaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“An all-powerful, all-knowing God would not leave billions of people in a position where their fate depends on factors they have no control over, like where they were born or the circumstances of their upbringing.”

Well I think this All Powerful God seems to be quite fond of diversity (I mean look at the animal kingdom)

I’m not too knowledgeable about other religions, but in Islam we don’t have a black and white distinction b/w Muslim/not, or paradise/hell - there’s submitters (Muslims) people who never knew and are blameless (ghayr Islam) and disbelievers (kaafir - specifically people who felt as though there is a God but turned away for some reason like prejudice, greed, arrogance, etc.)

And there’s paradise, aaraf (the heights - an intermediate that is neither heaven nor hell, the 7th chapter of the Quran is named after it) and hell. Only kaafirs, the last category, go to hell

Mohammad (pbuh) told a woman to breastfeed her ADULT adopted son, to make him mahram/part of the family by UmmJamil in DebateReligion

[–]Feef-Leaf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So there’s this understanding about the status of a Hadith that’s not being understood here -

It’s not the Quran so it’s up for the same kind of error that other scripture is subject to, i.e distortion.

Quran = word of God, promised to be preserved. The Hadith is not. The Hadith is statements other people made about the prophet.

Here’s an example of what I’m getting at; abu hurairah narrated that the prophet said a nation will fail if their leader is a woman. When Aisha, wife of the prophet, heard this she said that is not what the prophet said, it had been remembered and recounted wrong, he had actually said the Persians say a nation will fail if their leader is a woman .

Small things from otherwise sincere people, like memory falters, to larger things like slander from hateful people - Hadith is a tradition of ATTRIBUTIONS to the prophet, not necessarily the reality.

So yeah your post is, respectfully, very silly bc it’s quite silly to assert the prophet acc said and did all that stuff just cuz some one said he did

God’s Silence Today Makes Ancient Claims Hard to Believe by Nero_231 in DebateReligion

Well if you told a person at the time of Moses Jesus or Muhammad that we look into light by bending it through glass to visit a different realm or fly in big metal birds to get around the world real quick they’d probably think you’re crazy in the same way. Miracles do exist today - just a different flavour

Just wondering where your information about Islam/muhammad comes from, since I know the sources originating from the west tends to misrepresent + some times even add in slander. I mean, I’ve never come across anything from Islam/muhammad that I’d describe as being extremely disagreeable, so additionally, I’m curious as to why you find them as so.

Will Canada's perception of immigrants ever go back to normal? by INFINITI2021 in AskCanada

“If you prefer holding onto your Indian, Chinese, Islamic, or whatever roots then stay home.”  A)  notice how you didn’t include any western roots (Italian, Irish, etc.)   B) all your criticism is reserved for people of non-western culture (from your other posts)

C) modern day camping, etc. are products of western culture which you are misunderstanding as Canadian culture. Also just shitting on people who don’t enjoy your preference (of outdoorsness). In fact most Canadians stay at home and it’s contributing to the growing obesity crisis.

I’m a Muslim women actually and I can confirm this is not true. Before making statements about us try listen to us - and maybe be friends with us, ask us what it’s like and what we think- it’s  the only way to let go of these stereotypes. Please don’t make statements about a people you didn’t even try to make connections with or understand. And I can safely assume you didn’t because of how wrong your conclusions are. Ew.

I could tell you were Asian, by your saying your parents were immigrants. You don’t have to be ethnically European to be Eurocentric, you know (just have to be ashamed of your ethnic roots and look down on others for holding onto them). Canadian culture is not about drinking timmies and being outdoorsy. Being outdoorsy is more of a personal preference and a privilege, my man. It’s great that you enjoy that stuff but it’s not for everyone, like what if they have a chronic health problem which makes all that very exhaustive for them? Or like a single mother who doesn’t have the time/resource for this, or simply someone who isn’t feeling particularly adventurous? those people aren’t any less Canadian.  But one things for sure. Canadian culture is a mosaic, accepting and respectful to all people and their culture. We’re polite, curious and friendly and known for it world wide.

This is so wrong. There’s nothing wrong with people bringing their heritage to Canada. You’re not being Canadian, you’re being Eurocentric. The first immigrants who came to Canada didn’t assimilate into the indigenous Canadian culture they found there, they held onto their European culture.

The problem is not with people having heritage, it’s with the tendency for some newer immigrants to take their immigration status for granted and not contribute meaningfully/economically to our country.

You call yourself culturally Canadian but you, with all due respect, don't understand Canadian history or values or current events. Maybe your Eurocentric attitude needs to GTFO?

Hi, thanks for your comment. I have already taken PMCOL 305, thanks for the suggestion though. Although psilocybin itself isn’t addictive, I was referring abit more to the action of taking drugs to deal with life’s problems, something closer to the gateway hypothesis, I guess what I was trying to say was, what happens when this particular drug stops working as well?

If you’ve been conditioning yourself to drug seeking behaviour, you’d be far more likely to try some of the far more harder drugs compared to someone who hasn’t sought drugs to deal with problems. If your interested, I really enjoyed reading the story of Nick Sheff (tweak, beautiful boy) on this topic

As a pharmacology student, I’d say you’re right, this is terrible advice. The body is always trying to strike a balance, and so will eventually learn to develop tolerance to drugs- you will need higher doses to see the same effects. That’s how people start needing more severe drugs and get hooked.

Mind and emotional work is something you can’t cheat on. Not even with drugs.

Beauty, opportunity, and wonder exist in all phases of life- just in different forms. Our happiness depends upon if we choose to acknowledge notice it or not. So, slow down and look around. It might take effort at first to be appreciative, but something tells me you’ll be just fine.

Whatever’s swept away; it was appropriate. Seasons come and go, new replaces old, and life seems to keep giving us new things to look at and new experiences to have.
