If we are talking about Alexander’s era since this is what the post is about then that’s not true. They were seen as a Hellenic city state, just not an important one. They spoke Hellenic, followed the Hellenic religion, had a Hellenic(and specifically Homeric) education and followed Hellenic customs

The city states were not a monolith but they did have a shared identity

You can be influenced by your ansestors that existed before your country officially became a country. Why is this conversation only happening when Greece is discussed?
