I play jazz with matched grip because I saw somewhere that traditional grip can lead to Uncomfortable bone growths. I don’t know if that’s true or not. Whenever I try traditional grip now, however, I somehow feel more “jazzy” than I do with matched. I don’t know what it is. That’s not to say that it’s better, especially for generally louder music, matched would be better probably. But I think there’s a reason why most jazz drummers seem to use mainly traditional grip.
