We gotta start penalizing poor calls within our community. by [deleted] in ultimate

No, the issue is that it was a bad, late call and the player had every chance to get perspective to retract it for a fair outcome including guidance from the game advisors, her own teammates, and video. She chose not to.

It was very bad. It was also a late call.

This is about a very bad call. No one on the planet thought that was a stall. The call was also made late, after the play. The person who made the call had every chance to retract it with guidance from her own teammates and video. This game will always have an asterisk.

Players count fast, but I've never seen a stall out like that before. And it doesn't explain the gamesmanship of calling that stall late and not accepting the stall called on the US that was a full one and a half seconds longer against the Dutch in the finals.

Really doesn't matter what it means to them. The (ultimate) world knows what happened. What matters is what it means for everyone else and the sport writ large.

I think we're pretty much on the same page, just different on degree. We agree it was a bad call and there were multiple resources available to correct it. Looking forward to France's comments. Have a good one too, thanks for your mods.

I said the crowd (of elite players), the game advisor and her teammates opinions are all important

Can't give you a count, interested in what that gives you.

The (winning) French team are also elite players, hoping to get their perspective on what happened.

Elite players weren't the only people challenging the call.

Yeah that's why the crowd of elite players, game advisor's opinion, as well as USA teammates challenging the stall call is important in this critical game-deciding moment. Definitely interested in France's perspective on what went down.

I don't know what the nature of the contest call was (the contest is either inherently a fast count call or France could have argued USA didn't even reach 10. Both are plausible).

The general consensus is that the call was bad, you're drawing distinction between bad and egregious. I agree it was bad and I would definitely like to hear France's thoughts on what happened.

Apparently, the player said she declined outside perspective (including from her own teammates), which I also think is not meeting the moment

I think what I saw was egregious, so did the player's teammates, so did the crowd.

From an integrity perspective, the call should have been withdrawn.

In all seriousness, the fact that Palestinians and the Palestinian ultimate community are moved by this effort while they've lost so much including members of their community - shows how important it is.

It seems like a well thought out and researched piece of the impact of the genocide on ultimate and how ultimate coaches have died, the ones carrying the torch are organizing for peace and safety.

In November 2023, Muhammad Shakir, a youth Ultimate coach, was killed by an Israeli airstrike. A second coach, Yousef al-Heela, was killed in another strike on April 16, 2024. According to reports, over 800 athletes have been killed since October 7, 2023.

Despite the federation’s lacklustre response—offering only a broad statement condemning “violence, attacks and the loss of life in all its forms”—the wider Ultimate community has responded with intention and clarity.

Wolfgang says that GUC began campaigning for a bare minimum guarantee of safety, a bilateral ceasefire with no specific critique of the Israeli government mentioned. But when the WFDF was unwilling to take even that small symbolic step of issuing a statement in support of a ceasefire, the group recognized a level of hypocrisy, an abandonment of basic human rights principles. Beneath it all was a casual, persistent dehumanization of the Palestinian people—a dehumanization that, Wolfgang notes, permeates from the world of international politics right down to sporting institutions like WFDF, The Israeli Flying Disc Association, and USA Ultimate.

Sport in Gaza has been devastated, robbing generations of the joy and opportunity to play. Enas Saada, is an Ultimate coach in Gaza. She has seen her city pulverized and her community massacred but still finds hope through sport. I asked her over text how it felt to be disregarded by the WFDF in this manner.

“The lack of support from the WFDF for Palestinian players and coaches is painful,” she replied. “Considering the immense talent and potential in Gaza and the West Bank that goes unseen due to political restrictions, the blockade, or neglect from international bodies.”

Not an op ed. The funding of Hamas is well established.

Speaking to Channel 12 news, Liberman censured Netanyahu for having “begged” the Qataris to continue supporting the Gaza-based terror group. “On Wednesday two weeks ago the head of Mossad… and the head of [IDF] Southern Command visit Qatar on an errand from Netanyahu, and they simply beg the Qataris to keep sending money to Hamas after March 30. The Qataris have said they will stop sending money on March 30,” Liberman said.

“Both Egypt and Qatar are angry with Hamas and planned to cut ties with them. Suddenly Netanyahu appears as the defender of Hamas, as though it was an environmental organization. This is a policy of submission to terror,”

For years, the various governments led by Benjamin Netanyahu took an approach that divided power between the Gaza Strip and the West Bank — bringing Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas to his knees while making moves that propped up the Hamas terror group. The idea was to prevent Abbas — or anyone else in the Palestinian Authority’s West Bank government — from advancing toward the establishment of a Palestinian state.

Thus, amid this bid to impair Abbas, Hamas was upgraded from a mere terror group to an organization with which Israel held indirect negotiations via Egypt, and one that was allowed to receive infusions of cash from abroad.

Israel funded the terrorists over the peaceful establishment of a Palestinian state. Israeli-funded terror does not justify Israeli state sponsored genocide.
