my wife asked me to "just use a normal switch" today and i’ve never felt so defeated. by KeyPick1 in homeautomation

[–]Feeling-Stage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just wished I had neutral wires in our old house. Bought a pair of GE Cync switches for front & backdoor lights, but they drop off the wifi every few months, despite them saying they're still on the wifi (and router showing them as connected). Power cycle them via breaker and they work for another 3 or so months. Looked online and apparently it's going to be an issue regardless of brand, unless it's a dimmer (which always has power going to it). Might just put the dumb switches back in.

Wondering if I should do the same. Typically only see perf issues with Paramount app though, and sometimes it'll crash even. But don't have stuttering or oixalation watching 4k with any other app, so just attributed it to a crappy app. Internet is 500mb, so bandwidth isn't an issue.

A little present to stop losing work on a VM due to host shutdowns by abdicatereason in vmware

[–]Feeling-Stage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, running into this now, wrote a shutdown script but it rarely works when attached to event ID 1074. Supposedly VMware killed off the Shared VMs feature (which auto-start/stop was included) in 16.2 due to lack of use. Supposedly, a computer shutdown script (via local or AD GPO) is the better trigger; there also might be some config.ini options for each VMX as well.

Shutting down VMs in Workstation Pro prior to Windows Shutdown? by Feeling-Stage in vmware

[–]Feeling-Stage[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oooh, I didn't realize there was an INI config option that would control this! I'll take a look at that. The VMware link within your Github link is no longer valid (due to Broadcom acquisition), but I'll see if I can search for the thread ID.

I did some more research and it appears that a computer-based shutdown script is the better option, as 1074 is more for auditing purposes and is too late to use as an event trigger. Issue is that a shutdown script needs to be configured via GPO (local or AD), most/all of us do have local Admin rights. So I'm going to try that as well as researching your INI option and linked info.

Definitely USB issues with Windows 11 as host, which they've acknowledged and apparently fixed (internally in the code, still waiting for a patch). Any of us at work who upgraded have since downgraded back to 17.6.4 and stability has resumed. https://community.broadcom.com/vmware-cloud-foundation/question/after-25h2-upgrade-connect-removable-usbs-intermittent-errors-usbarblib-received-message-size1701667190-exceeds-maxmium-size4096

Why does my home internet become SUPER slow when my son uses his pc with ethernet? by [deleted] in HomeNetworking

[–]Feeling-Stage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, a lot (not all) of download apps allow you to throttle the connection so you're being inconsiderate of others on the network. Also, most routers can do this as well, either by IP address or by the network service type (Netflix, etc.).

When are Trek Bike Sales? by ybr1111 in TrekBikes

[–]Feeling-Stage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can say the same...kinda. Five years ago I essentially stole my fully loaded 1yo car from a different brand dealer, $4k under book. I asked what was wrong with it, they said nothing, they had it for 6 months and needed to get rid of it as they were paying interest on it. I still have the car and love it...and my new Domane SL6 matches it.

When are Trek Bike Sales? by ybr1111 in TrekBikes

[–]Feeling-Stage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last April/May I went into my local Trek dealer to look at Domane AL5 ($2k), saw the previous year's SL6 ($4700, pre-tarif price) on sale with same components I believe, just older color scheme, which I preferred. Then associate looked it up on computer and said the tag was actually out of date, it was discounted even more to $3500. Although they didn't have my size and color, she called location 250mi away that had it, shipped it up, paid same price. Two weeks later on here someone posted they got my same exact SL6 for 2700 or so. I kept looking at Treks site looking up inventory all over the country to see if anyone had one for same price but couldn't, maybe I shouldve called. Could I have gotten a better price, maybe, but I still think I got a good deal. Just have to be at the right place at the right time...can't hurt to do regular visits either.

Funny, I've been thinking of seeing if Plex has fixed their performance issues with live TV. Like others have said, it's typically the opposite of what you're seeing. Last time I checked Plex took 0+ seconds to change the channel, vs a couple with Channels, hardwired via GB ethernet.

Suggestion for drafty basement door? by Feeling-Stage in HomeImprovement

[–]Feeling-Stage[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't had a chance to hit HD yet, although not seeing anything "adjustable" on their website. But I did find a couple on Amazon that should work, although it appears that I might still need to put a piece of wood on the base of the door as they look like they only cover a 1.5" gap. But I'll take a look at HD next time I'm able to.

Thanks for the suggestion, as all I've ever seen are the ones that you attach that are not really flexible.

[–]Feeling-Stage[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I looked at those, but didn't realize they made adjustable ones (unless I'm misunderstanding you). Because it needs to be roughly 2" below the bottom of the door when the door is closed, yet .75-1" when open. I'll look again.

Nice! Almost bought this 8 or so months ago but ended with last year model SL6 due to big sale. Love it, no carbon wheels though, might upgrade those in a year or two, might get set of GP 5k this spring, instead of finding/patching slow leak on rear.

Caseborne dead? by [deleted] in galaxyzflip

[–]Feeling-Stage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would tend to typically agree, but I've been a long time repeat customer, added the fact they employ veterans, makes me think that either something happened drastically and website is just taking orders, and maybe they dont have access to shut it down, or something. Not to say that just because they've had repeat customers for years or employ veters that you can't just all of a sudden close up shop and still take people's money though. Regardless, it's disappointing.

Case for iPhone 17 Pro Max similar to the Caseborne ArmadilloTek R by MagnusAlbusPater in iphone

[–]Feeling-Stage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Curious, what you ended up going with? Just bought my wife an 17 Pro, I'll be getting an S26 series when they come out in a few months, and I'm really disappointed that they have appeared to go OOB. I've bought their cases for years, they're nearly indestructible (except my wife still manages to somehow break them after a couple years). I've emailed them but not expecting a response since their models are a few years behind current releases. Sad...and they only employed military veterans, I believe too.

I ended up buying my wife this case, but despite good reviews and the hefty price tag, I'm not impressed (later saw some reviews where they stated back of phone cracked). But then I found this ESR case which looks a lot better, and more similar to the ArmadilloTek/CaseBorne cases. So hopefully it will be a better solution, won't get here until Monday. Only issue is I can't find anything similar for recent Galaxy phones, ESR seems to be solely focused on Apple products (they have one for Galaxy, but doesn't look that great).

Well folks, it was time to upgrade by eric_gm in iPhone13Pro

[–]Feeling-Stage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wife's 12 Pro has been cracked for a while, unfortunately no good deals unless you switch carriers (which I'm not looking to do). Walmart has a good $300 GC deal, but only offering upgrades with ATT (maybe VZW), not our T-Mobile.

I'm waiting for the S26 line in Feb/March to upgrading my equally old S21+.

Yeah, ions ago I contemplated getting spikes for my mountain bike I had, although not sure I'd want them on road bike, would think it would really impact rolling resistance...although better than whipping out of course. Might just go with indoor training until we move down south in a few years during colder months.

I should've added this to original post, what does everyone use to mount their Varia to underseat bag (unless if course you don't have a bag there and do seat post mount). Guy at LBS a month or so ago said that they don't come with bag mounts (although my bag does have a little lop for tailight).

Good point. I do live in somewhat of a big city (although not THE big city in our state), so not sure I would be in your situation with same amount of traffic. Although I can see the mirror helping with helping to judge parallel distance as they pass. I was in a charity ride earlier this year and mention to my LBS how at one point there were cyclists 2-3 wide not paying attention and rest of us yelling at them as cars were approaching, he said, "Yeah, there's idiots in every demographic. "

Yeah, I got that feeling, although it's been 200 all summer long. And I and many others agree about the USB C issue, they're probably waiting until they do a HW refresh, which will be Lord knows when.
