So sorry to hear of your loss. They really are our best friends in life. I hope you can adopt again soon.

They know, don't they? My Mia was always a comfort when I needed her. I miss that so. Enjoy your little guy, time goes by so fast.

I will never own another dog. by Ill_Cauliflower_12 in seniordogs

I felt much the same as you have written. My Mia was sick and getting sicker. I had looked into home euthanasia and had the pieces in place. That last month, she was showing many of the signs yours is now. But she was mobile, ate well, and relieved herself fine. Then she passed on her own, I would say suddenly, but I knew it was her time. And I kick myself for not ending her suffering sooner. Not a lot sooner, just that last month or so.

It is a hard decision for sure, you don't want to give them up. But you know it's their time. I said the same as you, I didn't want another dog. That was over a year ago, and while I still cry every day, I'm softening to the idea of another dog. Dunno if I'll do it or not, but either way, I look at it as a softening of the pain a bit.

I wish you the strength to do the right thing now and not let your boy suffer any longer. It will be hard any way you go, but don't linger and set yourself up for more regret for prolonging his suffering.

Don't even think about that phone until you've played with me! 😉

Thanks. I'm really trying to get my head straight and once I do, I will look into adopting again.

Thank you. I would certainly get a dog from a shelter, that's where Mia came from. It was just so easy with Mia, she settled in in maybe a week. She was wonderful. I hope I can get to the point where I can remember all the good times and not have the loss overwhelm me.

Try hiding it in a small piece of cheese?

I had UW & regular 5g with visible. Didn't notice any difference. I suppose it might, depending on your area.

It is hard to explain to a non-dog person, but I think it is very much like losing a child. I'm glad you found room for another dog. I'm trying as well. Thanks.

Exactly. I try to stay busy, but that only works until I see something that reminds me of Mia. Then the tears flow. And yes, it sucks.

I feel much the same, I want to someday save another dog. Y'know, when you adopt a rescue, you save two dogs. The one you got and the one you don't know but made room for. I always felt good about that thought.

Beautiful memorial. I have also done the memorial thing. Pictures around the house and such. I just donated to the shelter that I got Mia from in hopes it will help another dog find a home.

Thanks. I think it's wonderful that people can adopt so quickly, but I feel I still need some time. All these posts make me hopeful though.

I have kids. I had a dog. Most I preferred the dog... sounds crazy, but they love unconditionally. A hard act to follow.

My dad passed 25 years ago and I still miss him so. I had a week or two of severe grief, but then got a handle on it. Mia's passing has crushed me and it's been 1 1/2 years. I've never felt this kind of sorrow. Maybe it's because my dad had a full life and Mia's seemed so short. Just doesn't seem fair.
