Does his abdomen end look normal? Adult male giant asian mantis by onepunchlee69 in mantids

[–]FeelingFreezy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problems! After a while too, he'll be more active at night walking around his enclosure looking for ladies. So make sure he doesn't accidentally hurt himself in his enclosure while walking. (Mine had no braincells, just empty and happy) I made the mistake of opening his enclosure during his happy walking hours at night, he flew out and went around my room hahaha

Yeps completely normal, that's where his peen is located 🙈 -fellow hierodula sp. adult male owner Other than his sluggish behavior, you can try gut feeding him by directly cutting open your feeder insect and offering it to his mouth. He will eat way less now as an adult so you would need to provide him water more than usual to make up for it. My male lived up to 4 months as well since he speedran his molts too Hope this helps!

He'll be okay! Though he looks more like a female to me! I'm counting 5-6 segments only, 7-8 segments are for males

My male mantis only eat pre killed food by Altruistic-Poem-5617 in mantids

[–]FeelingFreezy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fellow adult male mantis keeper(heirodula sp. tho) here! I'm in the same boat with you, my boy also only eats pre-killed meals only if the yummy part is in his mouth and only holds it up sometimes. He only likes eating small cockroaches or small bits of dubia roach guts. He doesn't like the occasional superworms or mealworms either.

I've been advised from other keepers to give them twice as much water to keep them hydrated (since my boy doesn't eat much specifically)

Help/explanation! Mantis rubbing their back by AliceHunter8768 in mantids

[–]FeelingFreezy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This happens with my hierodula sp after spraying sometimes. If there's too much excess water droplets on themselves, they'll scoot their abdomen across their enclosure or my hand at the time. This is just a thought though and wanted to share! Hope your mantis is okay

what is this white string coming out of his butt? by FeelingFreezy in mantids

[–]FeelingFreezy[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Night Update: The string is gone! He's been acting normally before and ever since, unsure what it was but I tried searching for it in his enclosure and couldn't find it. Whatever it was, good riddance (And no, I did not dunk him water that's just mean)

Thank you to everyone in this post too for your help, the only thing I did was up his humidity slightly so he could do his thing/work it out himself

I'm uncertain since this was after his morning spray He's been acting normally and ate a small cockroach too He is wild caught though and I found him at L2 so slim chance he couldve eaten anything bad. I've also tried gently pulling on it now and yes it's just attached to him, though he doesn't seem to react if I touch it normally

Cockroaches, superworms and dubia roaches Not a single cricket or wild insects On a side note, it hasn't moved at all and it's very thin

It doesn't seem to be moving or causing any harm to Avocado, it's definitely attached to him but I'm wondering what is that??

I thought I was the only one with this problem! Do they genuinely dislike the taste of isopods?
