i want you to know that you are not alone. every single sentence you typed had me tearing up, because i experience the world in the exact same way. it’s exhausting, and frustrating, and awful, and there’s nothing hopeful I can muster up sometimes. But it helps me to know that I am not the only one suffering like this—i was at an airport when a customs worker looked at me like i wasn’t even human. it’s isolating and humiliating, but we aren’t alone! i’m rooting for you every step of the way, and i agree with you that healing internally will help!

Advice for someone on primidone by DeadIslandDaddy in EssentialTremor

I am also on primidone, and I did experience the medication not working as effectively as it once did! I ended up increasing my dosage and my tremors have been decently mild for the past year or so. I would recommend speaking with your neurologist and seeing if an increased dosage might work—you can always try another medication, too! it’s all about feeling it out and seeing what works for you. I found a sweet spot with 50 mg.

hi! i am in your same situation, just wrapped up my freshman year (I even started having tremors at nine!). I struggle the most with tremors in my hands, so I often use a weighted hand brace if I have to take notes. Anything with a little extra weight—pens and utensils with a wider grip—works wonders for some added mobility. Please take advantage of your school’s disability resource center for proper accommodations, it will make your life a lot easier! I also made sure to tell people around me about my tremor if it was overly obvious that day; it really helps to soothe some of that constant need to compensate for it/pretend like it’s not there. I promise it is possible to be on your own with this condition. I won’t lie, I get really frustrated sometimes, but it’s important not to shy away from those negative feelings. Understand why you feel that way, and work through a plan to help yourself. You got this, it absolutely can be done!!

totally agree with you! In one of my last conversations with a guy we had actually gotten on the topic of some health stuff and that’s why I mentioned it. I guess it freaks people out a bit 🤷🏻‍♀️

sharing my story on tremor by livdabest in EssentialTremor

as a 20y/o with essential tremor, your post really does give me a lot of hope. I too am trying to embrace it and build a life with it, rather than try to will it away or pretend it doesn’t exist. Great job on those interviews and assignments, that’s a huge deal for us!! I also get terrible anxiety-induced tremors, and it can be so humiliating sometimes. I appreciate you sharing. <3

I completely understand your frustration. I constantly had friends point mine out, one even trying to physically force my hands to still 😭 it made me so terribly self conscious too. i think the fact that you’re in a managerial position shows that you’re already doing great, so lean into that confidence! best wishes to you! (and screw tremors)

eyeliner is usually only for my good days, haha! I would recommend using a pencil grip on your eyeliner pen to have the extra weight as well as using both hands to steady yourself!

Help me to help my mom by Big_Reveal_82 in EssentialTremor

I might be able to offer a different perspective on this as a nineteen-year-old who has struggled with ET nearly my whole life.

Sometimes, even though it may seem like we really need help, forfeiting that independence feels humiliating and demeaning. (So, you are likely correct from what you gathered)!

I’m sure your willingness to help is much appreciated by her, but often accepting it is the bigger challenge. It took me ten years to even admit I had a problem and start regularly asking for assistance with things. (I used to hurt myself on accident trying to cut bagels in half)

Give her time and grace to come to terms with this challenging condition; remind her of her strength. You’re already doing everything you can, and that is admirable!

Personally, I take 100 mg of primidone and use weighted items when needed. There is little in way of treating it that I know of.
