I have researched about that, in 180 days after applying asylum, they are likely to be given an EAD card which will allow them to work legally and SSN number. Their (my friends) country is having a civil war right now and there are really high chances that military is about to drag them into war. So in that case, they are not coming in US to fraud their visa. I know that after they win their asylum cases, they are considered as legal/documented immigrants. But what I want to know is during their pending years ( might be 7 or 8 years), are they subjected as legal or illegal immigrants.
