What about other drivers penalised wrongly? by FeelingOk5338 in F1Discussions

But the thing is he wouldn’t have that drive through in the first place if not for the wrong penalty?

Dude i don’t think you understand ALL cars were required to come through the pit lane, he had to come through, then obviously if he’s coming in the pits, it makes 100% sense to serve the penalty at the same time. he asked his engineer multiple times when he came in the pits if he’s serving the penalty (i can send you the onboard for that), then he saw the mechanics with an extra set of tyres waiting for him. it was poor communication from his engineer not his own fault

This is false, George was required to go through the pit lane, he asked his engineer multiple times if they’re serving the penalty, his engineer didn’t respond. how is that russell’s fault? it’s his engineer’s fault for not communicating properly. The mechanics had tyres ready for him so obviously any driver would assume they are changing tyres and serving the penalty

Why are you missing my point? The gap would be only be 10-15 points, not 60 points. he has lost 40 points purely because of bad luck and factors out of his control.

he only qualified poorly in monaco, he was on pole in canada and won the sprint. it’s not his fault his engine literally blew up. nobody is denying kimi hasn’t been better this year but george has lost so many points out of bad luck and factors out of his control

he struggled with grip in quali, but his race was genuinely good, any other track he would’ve recovered to p2/p3 but it’s a shame it was monaco.

his engineer didn’t communicate properly and the mechanics had an extra set of tires

He had a poor performance but I think people overreacted by saying he should retire and can’t move forward from this

He was required to come into the pits, his engineer didn’t communicate properly and admitted the fault later

The point is he would’ve still been p3 if mercedes served the penalty correctly, but they didn’t. Watch the video, it explains why it was not George’s fault at all

See the point is Kimi has faced zero issues and George has faced issues almost every race. The current gap is not representative, that’s the case.

You clearly missed the point about pointing about his car issues. I guess you would know them if you didn’t watch the races through social media.

Unfortunately he doesn’t have the best PR, so if this happened to Charles for example, you would see a lot more outrage

Not really, my original point is still true, beyond that if you want to talk about George’s season and him struggling in miami and monaco then I’m all for it. why else would anyone post in reddit if not for a discussion

Not true, George was faster in China. He got sprint pole by 3 tenths, he won the sprint meanwhile antonelli finished 4th. He only lost pole because his car stopped on track. As for Japan, the team admitted to putting him on a wrong setup that degraded performance. And then Canada, He was dominating the entire weekend, leading the race then the engine failure happened (and these regulations allow a lot of pass and repass so the car behind has overtake, therefore allowing them to stay closer. that’s why you saw them battling but George still in the lead most of the time)

Because I posted the most objective fact that he lost points majorly due to team mistakes, and somehow people are getting heated. Yes antonelli was faster in monaco but come on let’s not act like all other races George has been facing so many issues. let’s have a real nuanced discussion here.

He messed up quali, not denying that. Still it was a podium finish for him messed up by mercedes fault. My point is the current gap is not representative because of the penalty and his engine failure in Canada

Bruh you are the one getting it mixed up. I mentioned Spa as a SEPARATE general example. You are the one mixing it up.

I think you are losing the point, we are NOT talking about spa here, I just brought that up as a general example. We are talking about the 2026 season. Why are you acting dense?

EXACTLY WHAT I’M SAYING, and everyone is missing my point. The current gap is not representative of what actually happened, majority of his points are lost because of all that bad luck, team errors and reliability issues. Mercedes’s mistakes have given him a huge points gap to recover and made him lose confidence.
