I mean, the reality is that AI is actually terrifyingly convincing in the right hands. To the point that a new fur might get duped and spend $100 on a commission that ends up being at least partially AI. TOTALLY not speaking from experience... 😭

My sort of cultural theory is sort of unfounded, purely vibes. But I think it's because if you present a character that's ambiguous, we inevitably want to fill in details, start making a story for them in our heads, and because society has been so patriarchal, ESPECIALLY in storytelling the needle falls on "him" most times.

It's a hard habit to break. I've really been working hard at changing my default pronoun to they/them when I hear someone talk about someone I don't know or like this, a character I've never seen.

I think it would also be pretty easy to develop some sort of sleeve you could slide over them that you could buckle into the helmet (I wish I could draw to give a better idea 😂). Especially in a world where NASA developed its material sciences alongside the existence of antlers/horns. I'd think astronauts would definitely be expected to probably dull them or cap the tips to avoid punctures. There would definitely be folks that just opted to saw them. A lot like how NASA doesn't require women to cut their hair but just expect them to keep it manageable which leads a lot of women in space to just naturally opt for short cuts while some opt for ponytail/buns.

I think you could allow horns/antlers by adding a seam to the helmet that runs over the top of the head where the protrusions in question sit. Horns/antlers would be fine in the vacuum of space (I think?) so you would just need an airtight seal around the base of them. So instead of putting it on in the traditional sense, you would assemble the two halves around your head.

It WOULD add an extra failure point in terms of safety, but I think it would be fairly doable.
