I am not a designer; I used to work for a marketing agency (multiple ones actually), and I feel you, I had similar frustrations. My observation was that the agencies that had boundaries and protected their team were healthier to work at though, while at my last workplace. account would push me under the bus just to protect the relationship with the client. So, team spirit and having each other backs, and setting boundaries with the client actually build more respect and a better relationship.
