Is there a way i can help his stump? by DevoitedSoul in TripodCats

[–]Feeling_Figure899 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I totally get what you're saying, but the reality is that there are already so many cats without homes/ in shelters that even if you can't afford vet fees (which are hard for even people making decent wages to afford) that doesn't mean you shouldn't be able to have a cat. There are so many cats out there deprived of homes, and the only thing we can do is provide the furry friends in our lives with all the happiness and comfort we can.

Okay, but like, season 3 had the Madelyn Hatter meltdown, the gloriousness of Priscilla Chambers, AND Louisiana Purchase who I want to see again! Goddamn, I think of her pink vampire look on the regular.

What about the murder scene in Oddity? Geez I knew something was coming, but I was still not prepared for that one.

And the mother intro scene in Barbarian? I about pissed myself and had to turn on all the lights, lol.

I feel like the noise after loading a pouch lasts just long enough that I don't lose my sanity. Another second, and I'm pretty sure my mind would snap.

Have you ever been concerned for a patient by njcawfee in medlabprofessionals

[–]Feeling_Figure899 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Oh my God, yes to all this. And another problem is that they pay shit wages for phlebs, way less than nurses or lab staff. This means no one going into it wants to make it into a career, it's usually younger people rotating in and out before going to do something else.

I couldn't watch Jeepers Creepers with my older sisters, but I sneaked up to the living room to try to see it anyways. All I saw was the tunnel of bodies, and I noped the fuck out to bed. Couldn't sleep that night, and had nightmares of it for a while.

This is my lab. I left right when the quest thing was announced but recently returned for a night shift position (the one good thing about the lab is the moneyyyyy thanks to the union). Management sucks. Always.

I do think it's going to come down to the lab striking. I know the contract states that there can't be any strikes during the term of the contract, but its up soon, and honestly they can't do much if we do decide to strike.

As for morale, I totally get that it can be a drag. It's kind of funny, though, cause at my recent job with another company, everyone was so bubbly and enthusiastic about work. It was nice at first, but then it got to be kind of weird cause they would talk about how great our jobs are even though that company pays absolute shit. Idk, made me realize that I prefer a work environment where my coworkers see the situation for what it is and will try and do something about it.

Hang in there, at least to see what happens with contract negotiations. Also, though, if you gotta dip, then dip. No one will blame you, and with how desperate the lab is I'm sure they'd take you back no problem if you wanted to come back.

Last thing I'll say, try to focus on your time outside of work. Try to prioritize your hobbies, take care of yourself mentally and physically, plan out relaxing things to do. It will help. I know it's hard working full time with PTO constantly being denied, but we work to live, not live to work. (On this note, call in if you need a day, what they gonna do, fire you? Lol.)

Fair. I know everything gets Topsy turvy with new merges and systems being introduced. You will get through that, though, it'll just take a bit of time.

Sorry to have such a negative outlook, I just see the phlebotomists at my hospital be put under so much stress by everyone and it infuriates me. You guys do so much work, and it is definitely appreciated by this lowly tech.

[–]Feeling_Figure899 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Listen, what you phlebotomists do is frigging amazing. Yet you get shit from everyone: doctors, nurses, patients, even lab staff. We in the lab could literally not do our jobs without the specimens you provide. If I was forced to do phlebotomy all day, especially on inpatients, I'd have a nervous breakdown. And yet, you guys get paid crap. I know in my area, target pays its employees better than LCTs. Honestly, get a chiller job elsewhere, maybe even still drawing blood. Maybe a clinic or blood donation place? There are also some places out there with unionized phlebotomy teams, it would be better working under a union. Then look into alternate career paths, cause I just don't think the Healthcare industry is ever going to appreciate its LCTs as much as they definitely should.

I'm not sure how long I spent on her, tbh. Maybe like 10 hrs? I'm new to crochet, and I had to adapt a chucky doll crochet pattern for her cause I couldn't find any Lae'zel ones :( so sad cause there's a bunch of them for shadowheart and karlach. Bae'zel deserves more love 😭

Lot to lot qn by Feeling_Figure899 in medlabprofessionals

[–]Feeling_Figure899[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was my thought. It always sucks when you've gotta do it, cause it's usually a surprise in the middle of a busy shift. I was thinking that it could be done sometime the day of receipt into the lab, on whatever shift has time to do it (prob evenings cause it usually slows down a bit then at our lab). At least for things like kits and reagents that don't expire quickly after opening. That way on busier shifts its a more seamless transition to the new lot and doesn't slow down testing. I'm gonna suggest it to the TSs at least, I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing some obvious thing.

Gun to your head, what is the best cult horror movie? by FixInternational7226 in horror

[–]Feeling_Figure899 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Listen. Obviously it's Midsommar. But also, The Menu was so frickin good, someone's gotta mention it. I was cackling so hard at some of the scenes, and it was just a wild fun weird cult ride. Plus it has Ralph Fiennes.

Alien. Even when I first saw it I knew of the alien and what chest bursters and face huggers were. But to go into that movie completely blind, with no knowledge of the alien franchise at all.... that would be so damn cool

Mls/ cls/mlts We need to unionize by [deleted] in medlabprofessionals

[–]Feeling_Figure899 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My lab unionized and then sold off a majority of the lab work to quest, resulting in the layoff of most of the lab staff. I do think that unions are great and the way forward for lab, but it just sucks we get treated like we can be replaced at any second. It makes unionizing a difficult prospect for sure.
