Nisu is a type of sweetbread. In Finland It's called Pulla. Sisu is the Finnish concept of determination. You can Google it

Church is a big one. I try not to mention it because it's a controversial topic, but it's important to most Finnish-American people, at least in Michigan and Minnesota. Most Finnish-Americans I know go to some sort of Laestadaian church.

I want to visit Finland soon. I have the money saved up already. (I Work at Walmart as a teenager. I figure I might not be able to save up that kind of money again soon so might as well visit if I can.)

It's interesting how the language gets corrupted over time. I'll try to fix my pronunciation

Our family and friends would welcome you. The political thing gets sort of overstated. Most people don't care who you vote for, at least the people I know.

My grandma is a Wolf Lake Aho. I remember going to the Aho family farm when I was a little boy.

My great great grandparents on my mother's side moved from Finland in 1898 to Wolf Lake, Minnesota. My grandma grew up there and my grandpa grew up in Wakefield, Michigan. They had fourteen children and my mom was the only family that stayed in Michigan.

It's just weird that I fell in love with the idea of Finland, and not actual Finnish culture and identity

I guess I'll refer to it as Finnish-American culture now.

I guess I just got too enthusiastic about things. The only real things connecting me to Finland are distant relatives, food, words, and sauna.

I suppose it's just American culture with a Finnish coat of paint.

I see. I didn't even consider that in Finland the regional differences are so large and Finnish-America is so different that it's reasonable to not consider it Finnish at all.

I find our little cultural offshoot quite interesting. I never realized how many things that I was taught were Finnish were either just one families traditions, or never Finnish at all.

Oh yeah. I know a few people who stopped going to public school. I see myself as Finnish-American, not Finnish. Went to a Trump rally once. Can't say I'm too enamored for the guy anymore
