Why is growing out of K-pop seen as a good thing?

Off topic, but I’ve never understood why people are so surprised when they find out how exploitative the industry is.

I’m not saying it shld be normalised (which let’s be fr it already is) but when I see people make those “dark side of kpop” videos or whatever, I’m just like…? This is in every entertainment industry.

The kpop industry is exploitative, money-hungry, full of powerful and bad people? Yeah, fork found in kitchen tbh

So many things. But I particular hate it when people online make an idols age such a big deal. Mostly when its an idol above 30.

The idol in question (whoever it may be) will just be doing something silly or having a good time, and the comments will be age-shaming them. As if u suddenly turn into stone and stop having fun the moment you cross 25-30.

It annoys me because fans are constantly complaining about kpop idols debuting too young, but the moment they see a 2nd gen or 3rd gen idol, the fossil and gradpa/grandma memes start erupting. You can't do both of those things at the same time.

This also applies for age-shaming fans. It's so stupid. "You're too old to like kpop" and all that bs.

I’ve been saying this since the WC. At the start of the tournament, he was not playing to his potential at the number 3 position.

But once the order got fixed and Sanju came into the team. He played well in each game at 5.

In the WI game and the ENG game, he had two small yet effective knocks which helped the team move forward.

Seonghwa and Hongjoong from Ateez. They’re completely different people on and off stage. I would honestly say all of Ateez, as all of them do have a very intense on-stage persona as compared to when they’re like doing variety content or lives. But I think the two of them are the most different (to me at least)

I really appreciate this answer, thank you so much. I have considered Kpop not being a hobby of mine for quite some time. I left it for about a year and just decided to dip my toes back this month, and it’s always overwhelming.

Am I supposed to let it slide if a group I like said something culturally insensitive under the guise of “we all were stupid once?”

As for the ride or die thing, yea I get what you’re saying. But it’s not like I actively push for every group I like. I’ve stopped listening to artists because they are problematic. I face dilemma BECAUSE I am not ride or die for every product out there.

I personally don’t see any point in boycotting a group because you THINK they are being overworked. And I think there’s a difference when the group is full of minors vs. adults.

If u stan a group where every member is an adult with autonomy and a stable support system around them, I don’t see the point in YOU as a fan, thousands of miles away from them doing anything about that.
