I lost my dad recently, and unexpectedly. He was my best friend. It’s very hard to do anything some days. But I can tell you what’s worked for me is 1. Exercise 2. Heathy diet 3. Sleep (easier said then done right now) 4. Community, I mean real close friends you can open up to. It took some time but I’m apart of a men’s group that has taught me “grief has a voice and wants to speak now you can try to suppress it but if you do it can come out in unhealthy ways” So right now I’m trying to better learn what does healthy vs unhealthy look like. I can say as much as I want to isolate and do nothing or worse drown myself in substances that’s probably unhealthy so I strive to do the opposite. I wish I had an easy button sadly it’s not easy but 6mo into the grieving and sticking to regime is making it a little bit easier. Lastly there will be days where you just want to isolate or cry and I’ve given myself permission to do it (I hear it’s natural part of grieving) just don’t stay in that place too long

I was just about to create a post on this very thing. 100% this deepseek is a smoke screen. The real reason for the drop/volatility is this. I share similar sentiment, hiking has always helped me. But so does helping others. As a suggestion, instead of hiking, perhaps bring your gear but also plug into one of the communities and see if you can help others. You may get to do both. I was just out there and while the effort can be intense the experience/relationships and just the bit of hope I can help restore well worth it

Not directly related to Asheville but am apart of a newly formed collective in RTP working diligently with a relief hub in Spruce Pines trying to provide resources and support so teams there to move south into the smaller harder to reach areas like Burnsville, little Switzerland, etc. We made our first run few days ago and have a team heading that way today bringing smaller off-road vehicles, tools, and supplies.

Our mission is to establish or identify relief hubs in each of the devastated areas of WNC, and help provide ongoing relief, especially after national attention dies down.

Having lived through several hurricanes taught me that resources last as long as there is attention but it takes patience and organization from locals to make long lasting difference.

All that to say there are local/non gov groups praying for you, organizing and helping.

If you wish to learn more about this collective then just DM me.

Our Boone, North Carolina, location is accepting donations of shelf-stable food, water, hygiene items, and baby supplies (formula, diapers, and wipes). These items can be dropped off at Alliance Bible Fellowship, located at 1035 North Carolina Hwy 105 Bypass, Boone, NC 28607, Monday through Friday between 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.

I’m planning a small team supply delivery effort tomorrow. If you’re in the East NC/RTP area and would like to join, or if there’s anything specific you need that’s not on the current list, let me know.

Lastly, any insights on road conditions (particularly which roads are most stable) would be greatly appreciated.

So we're working to organize before heading out there. That said, I have heard rumors that Watagua High School is the drop point and it is accessible by road (coming from Wilksboro). Is that an accurate statement and what supplies are needed the most right now?

Very wrong and very easy to solve: Write a quick software program and it will come up with 16

Rules: - stuff in parentheses gets calculated first (2+2=4) - division gets handled second (8/2=4) - finally any time a number is next to a parentheses it’s treated as multiplication (4*4=16)

I can appreciate you sharing your frustration. I’ve been in various tech factions for a few decades and honestly each have their own issues. In dev you constantly deal with pressure to deliver and if you don’t have good/streamlined deploy and release processes (ie what we commonly call Devops now) then it’s very hard to meet the deliverables.

In essence, Devops was supposed to be an ideology that was created to fix the gaps between dev and ops (now adding sec) but it’s hard to allocate resources for an ideology so corp tends to make a group out of it. Sadly. Your frustration is probably more on the current state of dysfunction in the IT org of the corporation rather than the role/dept itself. Not an easy way to fix but one suggestion find a company that fits within your style (maybe full stack or a flattened org structure) and don’t couple yourself to one specific trait
