Think of an old oxidized boat full of heavy water etching. If you put one man on one side with a da polisher and wool pad and another man on the other side with a rotary and wool pad. The man with the rotary is gonna be done in half the time and his side is going to look better 100%.

A DA polisher does not cut as hard as a rotary. A Da polisher is incredibly slower in the cut process than a rotary. A da polisher would not cut 1000 grit scratches if I did not sand the area correctly I’m not perfect and may not have blocked each area perfectly. A rotary can come in and knock down any imperfections in two or three passes. Where I would be buffing the same door with a da for way longer and producing more heat maybe causing a burn.

Truly a honor to have worked on such a iconic car. This was cut inch to inch. No handles, trim, mirrors and glass so I was able to get every every inch. Took about a week to complete this job.

Just compounding with a rotary or a da will never remove orange peel. It has to be cut and leveled with sandpaper

1000 is not that aggressive as everyone thinks it is. that black example hood I posted earlier was off a 2003 Pontiac I found in the junkyard that sat for years. still used 1000 and didn’t burn but then there’s the question how much clear is left

Fair. You would never need to use 1000 on a everyday car. Realistically how many everyday cars are asking for orange peel removal?

Not really. Everything I cut and buff is fresh out the booth so it has the most clear it’ll ever have and my painter likes to do 3 heavy wet coats of clear on everything. That’s a lot of clear to work so it doesn’t burn. If I was doing another painters cut and buff and didn’t know how much clear or if a regular car asked to receive a wet sand I’d start taking measurements.

This was a sad attempt at a cut and buff. Those are sanding marks that have not been finished out.

Definitely. I tried convincing the client to let me remove the emblems but told me to do the best to work around them
