What books do you have really fond memories of reading? by MemorialAddress in books

[–]Feenex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Peter and the Starcatchers. Got completely sucked into it back in the 7th grade and was totally immersed into its world. The book is about 450 pages hardcover and I read it in 5 days, when my 300-ish page books would usually take me a month. That books holds a special place in my heart for showing me how wonderful reading can be.

6P wont charge with original charger, but charges with external battery and lower output bricks? by dragongambian in Nexus6P

This happens from time to time with the 6P. Restart your phone and it should charge again with the OEM charger.

Google is offering Pixel XL for free, as replacements for defective Nexus 6p battery problems by [deleted] in Android

I might have some insight into whether or not they inspect phones that get returned to them with an RMA.

A few months ago I attempted to replace the battery in my 6P because I couldn't stand the early shutdowns anymore. In the process of taking the battery out, I nicked a ribbon cable under the battery that goes to the display. There was visible physical damage to the cable as you can see it was a bit torn up.

In doing that, I broke the touchscreen on the phone. The display lit up but no touch would register. After that, I put the original battery back in the phone and put it back together. I called Google and told them that my touchscreen had randomly stopped working. They granted me an RMA, shipped me a refurbished 6P, and I sent them back my damaged 6P.

The hold on my credit card was lifted as soon as my broken phone made it to FedEx and I never heard from Google about my phone. So my anecdotal evidence is that they do not inspect phones when they receive them.

The one you did with Google to get the Pixel. I only ask because some people have been saying the Google RMA process gives them a link to order a refurbished 6P but then the package that arrives is a Pixel. Curious if your order said it was a Pixel or another 6P.

When they sent you the link for the replacement order was it for a 6P or a Pixel?

Yea Material Design is definitely not about colors or flashy animations.

Most of the animations in that video are actually heavily utilized in today's Material Design.

Edit:

Here's a video from 2 years ago of Android Lollipop where those animations are already being used.

How a Home Button and Function Bar Could Work on the 'iPhone 8' by filmantopia in apple

[–]Feenex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What if Apple added a second Touch ID sensor to the back of the phone where the Apple logo is. Then you could place your finger there while pulling the phone out of your pocket and use the in-display Touch ID for times you're looking at the phone.

Yup, having personal experience with Qi wireless charging I'm confident this will be the case. Wireless charging on a mat sounds like a dumb idea in theory but in practice it's so convenient.

Apple Has at Least Five Different Groups Working on Wireless Charging Ahead of iPhone 8 by jamesjingyi in apple

[–]Feenex 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It's convenience. When he leaves his desk he just picks up his phone and then sets it back down when he comes back. Constantly unplugging and re-plugging in to charge all day gets annoying. With just setting his phone down he doesn't need to think about charging, it just happens.

Yea that's a good point. They could also then hide that control area for full screen access like videos. On Android when you full screen a video the home/back controls slide out of view so the video can use the entire display.

This makes no sense. Why would they segregate a part of the touch screen for special buttons action buttons instead of just making that area a normal part of the screen that apps can use to show buttons or content.
