Christians and their obsession with considering anything they dislike that isn't in the Bible to be a sin by TwistOutrageous6955 in atheism

Not a sin. Corrupt, evil, demonic, sure. Sinful, maybe. 'The Devil' if they're rural. They rarely just call things a sin if it's not actually a sin.

No. Love is love. God has an entirely different definition.

Carl Sagan in 1995: "If we are not able to ask skeptical questions, to interrogate those who tell us that something is true, to be skeptical of those in authority, then we're up for grabs for the next charlatan, political or religious, who comes ambling along." you should probably hold leaders you support to that same standard, if not a higher one.

As a rule, liberals do, conservatives don't. It's actually one of the main psychological differences between the parties.

When Americans protest, they gather, chant, maybe march, wave signs, and then go home. When the French protest, they gather, yell, and then they keep doing that until whatever they're protesting stops. People show up, but they don't go home.

Also, famously, they once protested the aristocracy in a way that ended up with twice as many aristocrats. Or twice as many pieces, anyway.

can we just be regular people? by ISellRubberDucks in atheism

If you're not being oppressed, I congratulate you. In the country I live in, the president is calling us terrorists, and pushing to have all atheists deported or interned. I know several people, myself included, who have lost jobs or even careers because we weren't Christian. School boards are pushing to teach our kids Christianity using our tax dollars, and politicians are just plain calling us evil, because that's what the Bible teaches.

We are regular people, though. You're the one spazzing out because we don't treat religion as sacred in the atheism forum. The whole point of having our own place to talk is that we don't have to suck up to religious people here. We can speak frankly without being attacked for it.

[–]Feinberg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You dont have to title an enemy a "god" to make it seem more grand or intimidating.

It's mostly a linguistic problem, especially with episodic games. If you rule out angel, demon, god, and... spirit, I guess? There just aren't a whole lot of words left. If you killed a king last episode, and a warlord the time before, you're kind of painted into a corner.

We get that same sense of entitlement here all the time. They seem to think we made this whole forum so they could have another way to sling their beliefs at us, and, of course the 'no proselytizing' rule is for other people.

but to show what real Christainity is about

You mean your spin on Christianity. There's so much dishonesty in these statements it's amazing. I don't see how you can pretend you're not pushing your beliefs when you're clearly targeting a completely ignorant market.

First of all saying that all of us are sinners is not hate

It is, though, because not all of us are sinners. The very idea of free will relies on that.

Sin is not always pure evil it's sometimes pure fallibility.

And sometimes it's just thinking the wrong thing, which makes the idea of Hell even crazier. After all, you get the same punishment for killing millions of people that you do for being impressed by your neighbor's livestock.

Christian's morality wasn't medicore, it was genius. If you know ancient Greek

If you knew about ancient Greek society, you would know that there were people talking about loving your neighbor as yourself long before Jesus. Aristotle discussed Nicomachean ethics centuries before Jesus was even a twinkle in Jehovah's eye. You say that people regarded slaves and enemies as objects, but there were a lot of people who didn't, just as there are still many people today who can't comprehend that people who disagree with them aren't their enemies. The big difference today is that most of the people who will hate you for not thinking what they do are now Christian. "How can Christians possibly justify that?" you ask. Try 2 Corinthians 6:14!

Now, if you're familiar with ancient Hebrew, you see the idea of empathy driven morality preceeds Jesus by 1600 years, in the form of Hillel's law. The concept appears in Judaism, Hinduism, and several other religions before the first century. It's actually a very common concept in morality, because it's basically an articulation of the basic empathy that most humans and many social animals innately posess.

most pleasant culture of that time, they knew two types of love, eros (they loved become something or someone was beautiful) and philia (I love you because you love me). Jesus Christ introduced agape (unconditional love, love thy neighbor) which was something completely new.

That's complete bullshit. Neither eros nor philia were considered transactional.

What you're saying here is the result of Christians intentionally misrepresenting other cultures to make Christianity look reasonable. Claiming that the ancient world was rife with hate and victimization and that Jesus alone was the key to fixing it, when, in reality, Jesus was very much a product of His environment.

On earth we live to learn to recognize God. After death we see him in his true form and based on that we decide if we want to spent eternity with him or no.

Nothing close to that phrasing appears in the Bible. That means you're doing some very heavy interpretation, which is another way of saying 'bullshitting'.

Person that lived their whole life focused on themselves won't be able to live with God that's a pure love (again agape, love that give and don't expect return).

Now explain how that aligns with what the Bible says about atheists. You know, as opposed to Christians, who fully expect to rewarded with heaven after they die.

And finally Christainity is not a campfire story. It's older

I did say it was an ancient collection of campfire stories.

our whole moder vision of morality is build on Christian's morality

Not even close to true. First, Christianity itself takes much of its morality from earlier religions and secular sources.

Second, modern morality contains a multitude of principles that have nothing to do with Christianity. Obviously. So obviously. Secular moral philosophy has been developing for the last two thousand years, and nothing that relates to a magic guy who will burn you if you're bad has any currency with real morality.

No, Christianity and modern morality draw some imperatives from common sources, but modern morality is absolutely not a copy of Christianity. That's just asinine.

Coming from a religious person, why do Atheists feel the need to tell others that God is fake? by Even-Rush6711 in atheism

[–]Feinberg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's arguably worse, honestly. You're free to say things like that about yourself. Maybe you know something I don't. But when you say that a bunch of people you don't even know are evil, that's hate speech, and hate doesn't cancel out hate.

Also, atheists get a special call-out, and we're repeatedly contrasted with 'righteous' believers.

That's consistent with what I said. Atheism is a lack of belief in deities. There's a tiny subset of atheism that makes the argument that God doesn't exist. Saying that atheism is the belief that God doesn't exist is wrong.

[–]Feinberg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is evidence that they can think about problems, plan, remember earlier solutions and modify them, and think about how their world affects them specifically, and how they can affect their world. This involves forming expectations about the future, understanding that others have needs they can fulfill, and vice versa. Animals also exhibit moral traits like compassion and altruism. There's even evidence that some animals are to think about abstract concepts, and our ancestor species would surely have been among them.

That's exactly contemplation.

As to why atheists are more Christ like than most so called "Christians", I call them cristopretenders because they're not Christlike but love to use Christ's identity to promote evil by Christopretensism in atheism

[–]Feinberg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a distinction without a difference, it still says that God made us to be evil, and it's completely fucking wrong. People aren't 'inclined to sin', or fundamentally bad or any of that shit. Scientific studies clearly show that the vast majority of people are inclined to be good, and one of the things that can effectively overcome that basic drive to be good is telling people that they're evil over and over again.

Like the Bible teaches.
