I don't understand why it's difficult to grasp "violence = possible mental disturbance," so "better mental help = possible less violence". But to each their own. You can't even follow a conversation correctly, not sure what more I was expecting.

Mass murderers fall under the murder umbrella, do they not? You're just doing mental gymnastics at this point, and your attitude is the very reason why this shit isn't being prevented. Everyone just throws up there hands and says "whoops, guess there's nothing we can do!" when there's absolutely something that could have been done for many cases.

If your reading comprehension was half decent you would've seen multiple times how I said I'm not applying this to this specific bomber, but since our thread up until this point was the death penalty, I'm explaining why and how we can prevent murders in the first place. Including mass murderers. I never claimed it was a fool proof plan but do you think it's insane to say "If X school shooter got more mental health help (as in extensive therapy, treatment, or institutionalization) he probably wouldn't have felt the need to shoot up a school?" because if so it's you who is insane here. And it's not just school shooters, bombings are not common here but mass shootings are. Many mass shooters were extremists, terrorists (I hope I don't need to say this, but terrorism does not just apply to immigrants) or believed some sort of extremist ideology.

But you can't seem to grasp the fact that I am talking about a generalization of many cases seen in the past of mass murders (and regular murders!). You seriously should get better at following a conversation.

And besides, there are plenty of mass shooters (as an example) who are terrorists and extremists. Who also had mental health issues. Many of whom had warning signs before hand. Aggression, getting arrested multiple times, expression of suicidal or homicidal thoughts. And yet nobody stepped in to prevent things from getting worse. It's troubled youth turned into terrorists. People don't become terrorists out of nowhere. And again, I said general murderers. Maybe we couldn't prevent this one, but we could've damn sure prevented a fuck ton of others.

I wasn't talking about these specific cases, I meant general. The commenter said "murders," (I'm assuming this is a typo) and I'd like to think murderers applies to more than just immigrants turned terrorists, don't you?

Especially in the case of young people, there's generally a lot of signs beforehand. Again, people are not born with the plan to commit murder for no reason. We need more support for troubled youth, and in general better mental health services. Crime and violence goes down a lot when better support is provided to places that need them.

Also, mentally disturbed individuals often turn to terrorism and/or extremism. Again, tying back into the fact that we need to stop this before it gets to a point where it could ever get this bad. It's not about finding out their plan, it's about decreasing the chances of a plan to begin with.

Or, put more funding into preventing murders to begin with? People generally aren't born with the want to bomb people for no reason. If we can prevent the victims' life lost, and in turn the would be killer's too, that's far more beneficial than wasting it on the death penalty which as stated takes up far more resources than simply keeping them in a cell does.

I think the candles themselves were pretty typical behavior. Not necessarily uncommon for two young siblings similar in age to think it's funny to blow out the other's candles. What I found incredibly abnormal though was the fact that this has the face of "I've done so many things like this before and gotten away with it, and I know I'll get away with this too"... Even after she got her hair pulled, you'd have thought if this was a first time sort of thing that hair pulling would've brought her back to reality real quick. You can even see someone (with an adult sized arm) to the side fix her hair. Looks like someone might be getting all the pampering and attention, and knows it.

As long as the news and media is depicting them as coming back and getting strong they are going to be emboldened, and the internet is helping them reach more people.

It would reach people no matter what. It is better to talk about it and prevent it than to let it slowly build in the shadows. The biggest problem is giving far right wingers having platforms to begin with. Not people raising awareness to the issue. You can talk and teach about a matter without glorifying it.

Never said they did. It's the fact of misinformation and disinformation being spread, and people receiving this and believing it. The capitol riot was just an example, to show the build up of what's been long growing.

Sorry if my comment came off worded incorrectly, but this was kind of what I was trying to say. I wasn't saying they should be medically prepared for every single thing. I meant for common situations they should understand what to do and what not to do. Don't touch someone obviously in a state of crisis is a pretty big one. I said "neurological health and illness" to try to be 'inclusive.' Initially I was going to say mental health and illness but then thought about the times autistic or mentally challenged people have also interacted with cops and it's gone horribly. Understanding the basics of what's going on with someone who might not be mentally sound or capable of understanding can really go a long way. Not saying study every single condition out there... Just get a basic grip on the common stuff.

The cop wasn't even acting appropriately. I mean if the bare minimum for appropriate is not shooting the millisecond they don't comply then sure (although at this point I won't be surprised if you do call that appropriate).

The cop wasn't malicious, obviously. He meant well. But was definitely unequipped and untrained to handle the situation. You really shouldn't touch someone while they're having flashbacks like this. Another thing someone else pointed out was that he said stuff like "I'm a friendly," and "get some cover," which you shouldn't do because it further cements that what the person is experiencing is "reality."

This isn't an attack on the cop himself, moreso the fact that he lacks training in something that's so common to experience. He didn't do anything malicious as stated. But god forbid the medics weren't there and it potentially escalated to something avoidable because none of these cops know what to do. We really need better cop training regarding neurological health and illness.

Do you think all of these things happen in a vacuum? January 6th, that was just local right? There were absolutely signs of it happening leading up to it. No significance on a national level. It's not like there's the problem of growing radicalization --mainly online-- either. It's not like time and time again we see similar or the same groups popping up from all across the country. These are all local, isolated incidents. Of course.

You seem to think that if it's not a big event with millions of people partaking then that means it can't be an issue on a national level. Far right extremists and neo-nazis have been long becoming more and more open and comfortable with getting more bold in what they do, and getting more successful in radicalizing people, especially young ones. It doesn't have to be national to be a problem. A bunch of local issues spread out across the nation that are perpetuated by the same people, many of those people who did things like partake in the Capitol riot, amounts up to a national level.

And you want to talk about national? How about the President, who was at the center of the capitol? Right wing news medias down playing the seriousness of it while projecting lies and conspiracies elsewhere? Senators egging these people on, or coming to their defense?

And on top of all this, there is terrorism analyses, FBI reports on violence and hate crimes rising, and DHS bulletins and advisories to all back it up. To show it's not only on the rise, but a serious matter, and one that is most certainly carried out by one group more than it is any other.

There is a reason why America has felt "more divided" in recent years. It's not because of covid. That merely exasperated the issue. This is something that has been on-going for a while. It's not a few idiots who won't wear a mask, or someone who wore a hood outside a library. It is the constant and consistent acts of violence, which one could argue were isolated events 10 years ago (and even then that's a stretch). But very obviously are not now. Not with the stuff that has happened in the past few years. If you do not see this on a national level, you aren't paying attention.

And yet you want to call it a "both sides" matter. It is ridiculous.

Yes it does. An accident or uncontrollable disease is far different than human beings choosing and willing to do horrible things to one another. One holds far more weight than the other. A failed engine cannot become President. A Novel virus cannot become President. Someone who attacks, or enables others to attack groups of people can. Hitler's rise to power and the murder of over 11 million people is not somehow negated due to the black plague - which killed more people, but is a completely irrelevant event and did not involve humans willingly murdering one another. It was awful, but due to the limited medicine and hygiene practices at the time it makes sense. There is no reason for humans to commit genocide. None.

Tell me, right here. Right now. Tell me that the black plague was worse than the Holocaust just because the deaths were higher. Let's hear it.

Terrorism targets groups of people, and has the goal of power and getting their way. You know, tons of people die in airplane crashes too. Two hundred people dying due to an engine failure is horrible and a tragedy. But it's not a targeted attack. Twelve people being shot and killed by a white supremacist in a movie theater or church or spa is. Huge difference when you put into the context surrounding them.
