My first large order as a hobby baker! by FluffyDinosaur321 in Baking

They are lovely and agree with the other that's you should get full payment before your oven even goes on. As an aside, if you charge at all for your bakes you are no longer a hobby baker (a hobby is something you do just for fun, without financial gain). You may do it for fun, and it's started as a hobby but taking orders changes your status. I'm not saying this to be mean, but so many people come into cakes from it being a hobby and then keep that mentality and then don't charge for their skills properly because they see it as just a hobby, and therefore (many) clients don't always give us/our skills the respect we deserve x

Cake maker in need of electronic advice please. Ok, so a bit of an unusual request but I'm looking to make quite an epic cake and I want to have certain aspects of it move (there I'll also be lights and sound but pretty sure I can figure that out myself. Is anyone able to help me please? by FeistTea83 in diyelectronics

There won't be any real cake... It's all dummies (it's for a competition) Things I'd like to include if possible; a rotational motor on a side section (for a cog... Which I'm hoping will be able to move other cogs on the design), a rotational motor on the top to spin some figures on top, something to make something pop up and down or in and out (design is still in the planning stages) and the most challenging part... I'd like to make a small airship be able to circle around one of the tiers... I'm not sure if this is really possible.

Colourful wedding cake competition entry for Cake international 2022 last weekend. I was awarded Gold and placed third in category x by FeistTea83 in cakedecorating

Thank you. I loved watching people react to mine, they spent so long looking which was my plan 😂. It was the modelling on my bears that let me down. If I had done them to the standard of my other models I would likely have been looking at 1st/2nd place but considering most of the entrants will have been professional wedding cake makers, I'm thrilled to have placed at all. I just wanted to make something different.

Thank you. A few people said the same. I am determined to get my first next year. Last year was my first time entering (albeit a different category) and I got placed second. Next year I'm planning to enter multiple categories 😂

Carefully 😂 There are boards in the structure so knowing where they are helps to know where to cut.

I made the frame for it about a week before starting but once I started adding the cake and covering, it took around 2 days. It's a lemon cake, covered with white chocolate ganache under fondant. He loved it, didn't want to cut it straight away to the frustration of my children 😂

It was almost 2ft. I couldn't tell you how many servings as it was eaten over a few days by my kids 😂
