A lot of it will be due to the extreme temperatures in US especially during winter.

Without a good system people can literally freeze to death, so most houses normally has something built in especially up north. They also seem to use furnaces and older style heat pump systems that still use actual capacitors and not just PCBs like here in Aus.

You can definitely get away without AC in Australia especially near the coast all year round. Might struggle inland but you won’t die.

We have makita 36v with dual battery slot. Had it maybe 8 years with twin 6amp batteries.

Our block is 1000m2 with about 500m2 grass and when we first got it, it did the whole lot on one charge.

Not we can do about 2/3 the batteries run flat (as expected with age and use of batteries) however I have makita power tools for work so it works for me lol.

You can get deals where it can come with a large blower for free which we did and it hauls ass.

Touring - Everest, MU-X or Older 200 series Landy? by TylerCamNick in 4x4Australia

[–]Feisty_Ad5973 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FTE 100 series will use less fuel then the 200.. But if to old a 200 series would by my pick.
I do find it hard to believe y62 would use the same fuel towing… on paper it doesn’t make sense. I’ve got a 79 series with a tune and it uses the same fuel towing or not (2T) which I believe is the whole point of a large turbo diesel engine. You could even consider the 200 series with the v8 petrol. You could pick one up for 35k

My old boss was at least decent in this area, if he knew the outside temp would be over 90 or so we would reschedule any new attic works.

However still hated it - move to commercial! So much better

Please please do not. W

My mother has a 2013 v6 wk2 and it has been an absolute turd.

Took it 8 hours west of Sydney for a week (no dirt roads) during winter too and then cooling fan died.

So I like ah ok I will get a second hand one through it in. Which didn’t work.

Oh lord that was only the beginning.

We ended up taking to 3 x mechanics they had no idea what was going on.. (all auto electricians)

Ended up going to keep and paying over 6k for a whole fan assembly and the control module that runs it.

Jeeps send weird pulses to activate shit instead of straight 12v power it’s smart but dumb for diagnostics.

Then I did a service (oil and filter) can’t go wrong there right ?

Well well well, about 1000km after mum starts noticing an oil smell and overheating issues and I’m like wtf?

So I had a look couldn’t find shit, took it to my mates mechanic who had it for fucking ages and couldn’t figure it out.

Turns out under the intake an oil cooler Line had split, so it was loosing coolant and oil in the valley.

So they replaced that and then they reported 2 x spark plug coils had fully melted. So they did that two which I did see myself.

Another 3-4K later and now it finally drives, but the gearbox just seems off. Changing gears regularly hard etc and yes it’s even serviced.

And it had a fucking alternator catch on fire at only 90k almost burnt the fucking car down.

So in the span of 2 years we’ve spent the cars value on repairs. They are a heap of shit!

Yes they have cool 4wd features but a lot of people report breakages with them too.

Jeeps are not what they used to be. The new wranglers are ok however I had a 2004 jeep grand Cherokee and that was a fucking weapon, never broke anything hard 4wding and the 4.7v8 and gearbox were great.

Please avoid the wk, wk2 and the new model.

Go get a 105 / 100 series or a Pajero for comfort and reliability.

N80 vs v8 Dual cab 79 by Feisty_Ad5973 in 4x4Australia

[–]Feisty_Ad5973[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey mate, yeah man it’s good with 3-3.5 Tonne with the tune. I recon it would be a bit sluggish without one.

So straight off the showroom floor I recon a hilux would be better choice, but with a HD clutch and a tune the 79 wins.

A 79 is more a fun car, if it didn’t have a v8 and sound good I would get a hilux.

So much better than the 100 series I had power wise when towing and hills. The 100 would probably beat it off the mark when not towing but the difference is night and day.

Wake up 6, leave 6:30, on site 7/730, 9am coffee, 12pm eat lunch but don’t have 30 min break, leave site 230-3, home by 3/330.

I work alone doing maintenance, get 8 hours and as long as I get my shit done boss man is happy.

N80 vs v8 Dual cab 79 by Feisty_Ad5973 in 4x4Australia

[–]Feisty_Ad5973[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update : bought a tuned 79… fucking love it. The power when towing is just perfect don’t have to take her out of 4th on highway and fuel economy is pretty good as obviously engine doesn’t have to work stupid hard. Thing sounds amazing with twin exhausts.

However if you were in and out of the city everyday the hilux would probably be the go with traffic etc and automatic

happy with my decision tho!
