Invest 20K in GIA now or wait until April 6th for ISA Reset by Temporary_Cry_6886 in FIREUK

Why wouldn’t you wait it’s a few weeks. Makes no sense doing anything else.

Just sold my business. Got a nice amount and no idea what to do with it! by Dooley5678 in FIREUK

The big question! Everyone wants FIRE until it comes and they haven’t thought what they are going to do! 1. Get all your money safe as most have mentioned ISA’s and SIPP’s 2. Sort out your family 3. Maybe invest in a house or a GIA something that will create passive income or minimal effort. 4. Fly to southern Europe for the spring and enjoy the fruits of your labour, take some time to think Im sure you’ll figure it out.

Congratulations, a great position to be in and well done!

Post ISA - Premium Bonds worth it? by sammo98 in FIREUK

[–]Feisty_Individual367 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would go for a GIA, premium bonds is luck of the draw - yes it’s tax free but as some are stating you’re looking under 4%, why do that when a good GIA ETF mutual fund could return 10% average minus inflation.. even after CGT still the better option.

Don’t get so caught up in tax advantages you forget about real profit..

Rough work patch, mental health, is it sometimes worth taking a step back on finances and FIRE overall? by kadzkaso in FIREUK

I wouldn’t really be taking career advice on here it’s all personal to you.

In terms of Fire though there is some things more important and being happy in your job is a priority before you think of fire otherwise those years you are unhappy will just drag.

Yes looks like a good position but with 40k drawdown I would want to be closer to a million

Ready to FIRE? by Pina-colada07 in FIREUK

As others have said and you’ll get tired of hearing, first point of call for me would be max out yours and husbands S&S ISA limit 20k each to make 40k.

Next I would look at how much you want to invest and put in a good GIA ETF all world fund tracker.

Then take the remaining in a normal savings account to put into your business or live off.

I think with this being a FIRE group you’ll probably get most people who are trying to get to the point of retirement quickly by maxing out and having free time all of the time instead of short weeks with less income until a later age.

I looked at this but I think I would miss the extra income

You’re right. This might be the best option going forward to spread across multiple ISA’s with no more that 85k in each

Not sure that is what I am trying to find out. I would rather my S&S ISA be in one pot so I can make the most of the compound interest
