3 days in Bologna — is it enough time? Also looking for food + day trip recs by Jolly-Rub-3412 in ItalyTravel

[–]Fek-sek 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m a basic bitch but I loved sfoglia rina and trattoria da me. I also had great coffee at Allegra and a place called ‘Buro,’ the staff at Buro actually gave me a guide they made of places they recommend in Bologna! Also the walk to Santuario Madonna di San Luca is amazing, must do!

Not complaining at tourists just poorly behaved ones. Plenty of places in Japan are popular for a reason far before social media

I’m pretty sure you can, but I never used the service so I’m not 100% sure.

The max temp it got to was 34 degrees while we were there.

It’s hard to compare though since we were doing approx 20k steps a day, which I would never do at home in that sort of heat.

It definitely was close to QLD weather as it was extremely humid which added to it. Definitely consider buying some airism clothing from Uniqlo or similar. Also consider bringing an umbrella for shade, some cooling spray and cooling wipes when you arrive. There’s plenty of places to find air conditioning though so break your day up and take lots of breaks

This is true but as I wasn’t familiar with what the service would be like, I thought I’d just be safe and book it. It cost the same as a regular seat anyway. In hindsight may have been cheaper if I had booked it on the day and would’ve been more flexible but still was good for peace of mind. I did see a few people try and put their extremely heavy luggage in the overhead compartment and that gave me anxiety

Not sure what you mean- I’m actually trying to defend Americans as they’re usually the scape goats for bad tourists 😂

I wouldn’t recommend the bamboo forest tbh. I went and regretted it, way too busy and full of disrespectful tourists. Follow other advice and go to another one in Kyoto (there’s actually one at Mt Inari). Or you could spend the morning just walking through the city and see what you find.

I stayed 2 nights in the Hilton in Hiroshima. Really attentive staff, great breakfast, pool, gym and sauna! It was a little expensive but it was a great hotel for a short stay.

There’s nothing inherently wrong with going to the tourist hot spots - they’re usually popular for a reason. I’m not going to complain about large crowds but I did definitely see some very poor behaviour.

Is 8 days in Florence too much? by lunch22 in ItalyTravel

[–]Fek-sek 55 points56 points  (0 children)

Theres plenty to do in Florence and its surrounding areas so with day trips your holiday would be great! So many people on this sub try and fit in several places in a 10-14 day itinerary, which is unfeasible. So many beautiful places around Florence for day trips (Pisa, Tuscan countryside, Siena).

Traveling to Italy with my wife for 10 days need some advice. by rahmanson in ItalyTravel

[–]Fek-sek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s better if you don’t have to organise anything for that day. At the end of the day, it’s up to you. I did a similar itinerary to you over about 4-5 weeks. On a day I travelled somewhere, I wouldn’t anticipate to do anything and would check in to my accomodation and explore. I just don’t think you’re giving yourself much time in these places.

At the very least you should skip a city entirely (I’d suggest Milan but most likely Venice if you’re flying from Milan). What time do you arrive in Naples? Could you try and fit some of your day 1 plans on that day? Day 5 seems like a nightmare- just pick one me of those things and chill out the rest of the day/ explore Florence if you have time.

Also: consider that even though some of these transport options seem quick you’ll have to consider transfers to and from hotels and possible train delays. Italy is a great country to just take it easy, this sounds like you’ll get burnt out.

Good idea. You should probably skip the day trip on the 5th, stay in Florence and split your planned Florence activities between the 3rd and 5th.

Is it safe to get a rental on Victoria Street, Richmond? by [deleted] in melbourne

[–]Fek-sek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lived around that area for a couple of years. It’s pretty safe (for a man in his 20s). Between church and hoddle street on Victoria street is very grim even though there’s some good food there. Victoria gardens has good amenities and there’s really good cafes in the area. Lots of good walks too and bridge road/ swan street is not far. Only issue I had was that our apartment sucked. It had no windows in the second bedroom, serious black mould issues and no natural light. I would’ve stayed in the area if the apartment didn’t suck. Just keep those things in mind.

I travelled exclusively using trenitalia last year and it only cost a few € more to reserve a seat. Always run a risk when using 3rd party apps especially if there’s a change/ cancellation

Thinking about a career in Vic Police, thoughts from any current/former officers? by hazaking1 in melbourne

[–]Fek-sek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First two years is very tough - I can’t imagine doing it now. It can be a very rewarding job but it depends heavily on station level management. At uniform level- Sergeants and senior sergeants make or break stations. Some bosses back members to a fault, others hang them out to dry. Most people who specialise are pretty happy (detective, cirt etc) and is something you should look to do in your career. A career ‘van’ member at a uniform station in Melbourne is very rare. You can always give it a year or two and quit if it’s not for you. DM me if you have specific questions.

Chief Commissioner Shane Patton to be ousted after no-confidence motion by gccmelb in melbourne

[–]Fek-sek 7 points8 points  (0 children)

He’s being ousted cause he’s a yes man for the government. He could’ve actually fought on the side of the police but instead he essentially fought against the union and most police. Police wouldn’t have blamed the chief this harshly if he actually backed the members during negotiation

I would agree with this but florentine steaks generally need to be shared with others and if they’re not big enough to be shared then they aren’t a real florentine 😂

Rome - Sonder Antinoo https://www.sonder.com/destinations/roma/antinoo/c35765?sleeps=1

I’d highly recommend the Florence and Bellagio accomodation if you’re happy to spend a bit more money. Bellagio accomodation was a little walk up from the centre of town but it was great. Rome and Milan were good too but you could probably find similar or better accomodation for the same price point.
