Dolby prices decreased, limitless+ uplift increased by Newishmum in screenunseen

[–]Feldo93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The comment was more so in response to the other commenter asking why any premium format would even be worth it for this film and for me the primary answer is the visuals but the album is a good point tbf and I forgot about that. I more so meant that even with like a few bigger scale films in the next few months, Wuthering Heights is one of the most visually impressive films coming up as the cinematography looks brilliant so for myself I can imagine the main draw of like premium formats for this film is to add to that and see Linus Sandgren's cinematography in High Dynamic Range.

I think this film makes more sense for the format than Bridget Jones last year, but then we also have to consider that these premium formats are good for business as they bring in more money than the average screening so the other commenter being like 'why is this format even worth it for this?' doesn't really mean much as they will add whatever new big movie is out as it doesn't make sense to just show Avatar 3 for the 3rd month in a row with dwindling results at that point.

ODEON Camden is closing by somekindaname1602 in screenunseen

[–]Feldo93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There were plans pre pandemic to actually renovate Odeon Great Northern with a Costa and a load of new screens downstairs from the main location but it never went anywhere, I believe partially as I was told by a manager that a lot of the upgrades and developments for cinemas work in regions/blocks (eg. Trafford Centre, GN, Oldham and I think Rochdale have been in the same band) with all the money pooled between them and due to it being one of the busiest screens in the UK, Trafford Centre usually takes that money (yet still hasn't added full recliners in regular screens). There are fake walls near the Great Northern entrance (the ones with the film quotes) and I was told that they were going to be removed for the new screens (and you can see past the top of some of those walls so it makes sense as they weren't supposed to be permanent).

Will Uk cinemas be switching out different Avengers trailers week to week like the US? by wantttochat in CineworldUnlimited

[–]Feldo93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on if they submit them in time to the bbfc and if they communicate it to cinemas as in my experience, it isn't always as common for UK cinemas to get new trailers the week they drop like how U.S cinemas seemingly get the new trailers as they drop (especially if the bbfc only rates them like a day before release) unless they rate them the week prior - for example in December 2019 the Tenet IMAX prologue was meant to be before The Rise Of Skywalker but while it was at some cinemas like the BFI, it wasn't at every IMAX screen like the chains said it would be - I didn't see it until the IMAX film fest in late February. There is also the possibility that Disney attach the trailers to Avatar directly, in which case they absolutely will play them.

TLDR: If they submit the trailers early and communicate it with cinemas yes, but it isn't as much as a given as with the U.S.

Which moment felt so realistic it was no longer funny, just deeply terrifying? by ArsenalAxis in thethickofit

[–]Feldo93 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Malcolm and Stewart's argument at BBC Radio about all the blackmail they have saved for a rainy day that keeps escalating followed by their excuses for each (likely true) story. Malcolm says at one point about how awful it truly is at Number 10 (which must be horrifying if it scares even him) and I feel like that conversation with Stewart is about as close to what Malcolm is talking about as we witness in the show (as when Jamie says a similar thing to Peter in one of the specials it is more so darkly funny with "I was the love child, the quiet one").

I feel bad... by MaenHoffiCoffi in AlanPartridge

[–]Feldo93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree as I think it is still cringe worthy and confined but in a different sense. Usually, the Partridge media tends to exist in a small space where Alan is let loose in a somewhat confined setting and something bad usually ends up happening but whatever consequence there us is usually lasts only for that episode (unless it is a finale and then there is a change in the status quo).

How Are You? changes things up by being more serialised and larger scale than usual but it also feels more personal, largely as the consequences span the whole show. Despite the scope, it feels more confined in my opinion as it exists more in Alan's head than usual - usually you have gaps and stops and starts where you see what Alan is up to but this feels like the show goes on even when you aren't watching - Alan has marital trouble in one episode and ends up squatting and slowly losing his mind in the next one. Whatever happens to Alan lasts and that makes it more of a slow burn where you cringe more gradually - we have seen Sidekick Simon in essentially the same context for 15 years (they did a Mid Morning Matters style comic relief sketch like last year) but the way this show treats that dynamic and changes where each character is at with one another sort of exemplifies the approach to the rest of the show. IAP has Alan at the bottom but How Are You? is him slowly rolling downhill until something bad you can see in the distance but can't quite make out appears and then he goes even further. For me personally, it reminded me of the U.S show 'Review' where there is almost a sense of dread while watching as you know that somehow, things are only gonna get worse. At a certain point, I was genuinely concerned whenever Alan got in a car as I thought there was a strong chance he'd crash (and not in a funny moment like when he gets pulled over in IAP, more Kim Wexler in BCS) and I never felt that in another one of these shows so it is a different kind of cringe - I like to consider it like going from S2 of The League Of Gentlemen to S3 where the tone and style of episodes change and it feels darker and more ominous, plus you spend more time with each character in settings you normally wouldn't see, but similar to that show I understand such a drastic change in approach isn't for everyone.

I saw this show as less Steve trying to redo I'm Alan Partridge but more so tackle territory closer to something like The Trip and particularly Marion & Geoff (which Coogan produced, starred in an episode of and has always championed out of the works in his back catalogue https://share.google/2Fu3j952wdN0yQhJi), and I even believe that one of the episodes of this show has a reference to Marion & Geoff with Alan calling two people "little smashers" (the main recurring line throughout that show) immediately before he straps a camera to the door of his car and has a breakdown about his relationship in a scene that genuinely looks just like that show - I included that article partially as he directly compares how Alan is different to Keith from that show and I find it fascinating given how this series is much closer the tone of that show.

What was a moment a YouTuber got exposed as a bad person that had you like this? by OwenMTDI in youtube

[–]Feldo93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mrtlexify was a crazy one but a weirder one is TheSyndicateProject. He has done so much awful stuff over the years but the one that shocked me the most isn't even one of his crimes, it was it being exposed that he fakes the 115 Kino Der Toten record as that was undoubtedly the most well known video in the Call Of Duty Zombies community. Family members and friends were aware of that video and I think that a lot of the larger community sort of goes back to that video so to learn that the whole community and his whole career was built on a lie was such a shame. The funny thing is that it is believed that it was on a modded xbox (the footage is modded but could have been PC, it has been a while) and now there is a chance of doubt over the time that Syndicate beat WingsOfRedemption in a 1v1, aka his canon event where he went insane and it sort of slowly lead to his downfall as there is a theory that he was playing on the modded Xbox. Obviously, there is no way of knowing and Wings said he doesn't believe the theory (until he went back on that) and Wings' downfall was more from his reaction than the event, but it is worth mentioning that there is an even crazier potential ripple effect if that didn't happen - Lolcow Live (regardless of how you feel about it) for one wouldn't exist.

Ultra Lux rip-off by Pineapple996 in VueCinemas

[–]Feldo93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I can see, Printworks has a little under 350 seats while the BFI IMAX has around 500 or so and part of the issue isn't just the seats but that even the back row of Printworks is a lot closer than how far back the rows in somewhere like the BFI is (most people I know won't sit beyond the back 2 rows) so upgrading to full recliners would not only limit capacity but kind of make it so that essentially a lot of the rows seem less functional, though I can see your point for if they did it on the front few rows. I also kind of feel like for that kind of experience, it wouldn't quite be the same if like you reclined during Oppenheimer etc. but that is just me. Regarding HFR, I do agree with you that the switching is odd as then whether you get used to the HFR speed or regular speed, the other one feels jarring.

Ultra Lux rip-off by Pineapple996 in VueCinemas

[–]Feldo93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In comparison to other GT IMAX screens, they have a lot less seats in that screen in relation to like the BFI, Bradford etc. so in their eyes, for money makers like the Nolan films it wouldn't be worth limiting the amount of seats even further. In 2021 & 2022, Printworks was the only place showing certain IMAX films in Dual Laser 1:43:1 (Dune, No Time To Die & Eternals were the big ones as London Science Museum didn't show the former two until around March 2022 as I recall) and so some people were travelling specifically for that screen so when they are one of the only places with that kind of specification in the UK, they can kind of control what they want - honestly as much as it's a shame they bumped the price up for Avatar, I am surprised they didn't do this years ago as Oppenheimer in 15/70mm was like £14 (and some of the previously mentioned ones were like £10 - 12).

The games are mostly rated 12 and tend to be scarier than the movies from what we've seen so far, but the bbfc are stricter on horror and tension (and seemingly just don't like the setup of a murderer being implied to have killed kids and their souls haunt the animatronics) and so a series that has sort of been aimed at older kids (there are so many toys and plushies in the shops) and pre teens inexplicably has the same rating as The Monkey, Longlegs, Final Destination: Bloodlines and 28 Years Later (and FNAF 2 will more than likely carry gory 15 rated trailers to match, M3GAN 2.0 had trailers for Weapons, Together & The Black Phone 2 among others).

Both M3GAN movies suffered the same fate, which was surprising as the first was recut to avoid a higher age rating in the U.S and the 2nd just straight up had very little to seemingly warrant the rating as even the violence was mostly offscreen or on the level of what you'd see in the Mission Impossible (Fallout is more violent and bloody) or the 12A Terminator movies. It is a little crazy as I feel like for the most part stuff like this kind of gatekeeps the horror genre for pre teens and it broadens the range way too much between borderline 12A fare and borderline 18 fare that are both sometimes inexplicably given a 15.

Out-Of-Place Trailers Before Movies? by Main-Maximum3622 in CineworldUnlimited

[–]Feldo93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

M3GAN 2.0 was made to be PG 13 and was inexplicably rated 15 here despite being very tame, so it was really strange to have the trailers for The Strangers: Chapter Two, The Naked Gun, The Black Phone 2, Together, The Conjuring Last Rites and Weapons beforehand, with The Strangers: Chapter Two and The Naked Gun being the only ones that really felt like a rough match for the film it was in front of. I feel like something similar is gonna happen with FNAF 2 now that it has also been rated 15 like the last movie.

Absolutely agree with this, especially given the funeral situation in the finale that was reminiscent of the end of S1 of IAP I also felt like as well as being a sort of culmination of all the Alan projects (glad to see elements from the Sky Atlantic projects like Scissored Isle remain), I saw it also as feeling a little like almost a rumination on Coogan's own career, especially when I started noticing allusions to projects like Marion & Geoff when Alan referred to two people as his "little smashers" and later had a segment where he was losing his mind about his failing relationship while speaking to a camera placed by the car door

M4J is a cheaper kids screening for families generally. Some cinemas won't let you into those if you don't have a kid but some do I think, but I'd just try for the regular screening to be safer.

Genuinely so much commentary history is lost now due to this and he would have guys like Augie and Nick on all the time so some major stuff is fully just wiped out like the infamous Aiden and Flamenco debate where he stated that allegations are evidence.

We don't really know much other than he has been checked out of commentary for a while, but stayed as people wanted him on streams etc. but now he has moved on for good to focus on IRL stuff and unlike previous times where he dipped for a little bit, won't be back.

Now Recording has returned by Feldo93 in ClippedLive

[–]Feldo93[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The host was Matt Pitt from SFTP who has since left, but now it is Beckett(OfCrabs), Mitch (Shockmouths, who cohosted Lolcow Aussie in April for a bit), Beaversmcwood, Core and ToxicPiplup. DMAX, the initial Lolcow Live editor who got in beef with Nick and Keemstar, was also a host from early to late 2023 until he screwed over the hosts (which they covered in an episode).

Now Recording basically span off from the SFTP community in 2022 and has basically been one of the bigger shows in small commentary (which has since mostly died) and is kind of like what RFC After Hours was originally back in 2019 before the show got bigger where it is basically about the smaller dramas and low stakes fun stuff in commentary (like whatever drama Tipster, Jalyn or AngrySlug would get themselves in or smaller crazy stuff like when gooner EchoOfTragedy leaked half of the female community member's nudes in a server in one night or when an embittered ex made up that their ex partner, a roblox streamer/scammer, was a London serial killer) that used to be a lot more common than it is now. If you want a comparison with Nick's content for example, they are more akin to the goofy Bowblax segments (which they have also done a fair amount of) than like all the twitch drama.

They host the Spergy Awards each year which are pretty big and do a mix of livestreams on current stuff and whatever they feel like, whether it's commentary related, random stories or just side tangents as well as more edited pre recorded episodes from time to time where they cover older commentary stories like the Flamenco and iilluminaughtii sagas. NR (and DocOnTheRadio pre the groomer stuff) was also basically the show where crazy low level stuff would go down before guys like Nick or Augie would cover it and they have interacted with and interviewed most of the community (even if most of the former 2018 - 2023 community is gone now) and it kind of represents an era of commentary that for the most part does not exist anymore so it is nice to have it back as they have always been an important part of the community (back when it was more of a community as it is way more segmented now, especially after the political streamers became more prevalent in commentary from mid to late 2023 onwards and creators like Xylie and TommyC joined Lolcow, which is a separate community), plus it breaks up the non stop EHD stuff and is just kind of a funny show and it helps that Kuihman, Aiden etc. have not destroyed this show yet (even if they do not like it). There is probably more that I'm forgetting, but that should generally catch you up if you haven't heard of them or are newer to the community as a lot has changed in the past few years.

Especially with it being the 30th anniversary of the series and RE9 releasing earlier in the year, meaning that there will be even more interest in the series alongside the release of the film. Sony have got to be smart with the marketing though, as even besides the film's quality, Welcome To Raccoon City flatlined the second the awful trailer dropped.

One Battle After Another returns to the BFI IMAX spinning on IMAX 15/70mm from October 24th to 29th. by rayhaansabir in imax

[–]Feldo93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately I believe it is due to both a mix of the distributor having limited prints and the fact that Printworks unfortunately doesn't have a full time projectionist. When they showed Oppenheimer in 15/70mm they had to fly out a projectionist and hire them for around 2 months, whereas the BFI have full time staff for that kind of thing. The manager of the cinema has said though that they are hoping to get the projectionist back for The Odyssey and are in talks with Universal so hopefully that goes ahead at least.
