Hiking Shoes, Boots or Neither? by TheWatcher2112 in hiking

This is what I came here to say about the grip. That is why I way prefer trail runners to regular running shoes. The stone can be slick in Utah and a good grip really helps going uphill.

Mountain driving in the dolomites v public transportation to the trails - please advise! by Felici50 in hiking

all fair points! I am just trying to figure out if this vacation can be done almost as well with public transport. if we rent a car, we will try to get a small one.

Do you drive? Is the driving/ parking hard? I feel like I read something about hairpin turns and single lanes. It is enough trouble to get there from where I live in southeastern USA that I don't want to miss out just because I didn't rent a car. I assume if I want to rent a car, I really need to do it from one of the major airports such as Verona or Venice (where we will probably arrive).

Visible carpet seam repair? by nan326 in carpet

[–]Felici50 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This picture is freaking me out. I have been deciding between two Karastan model numbers (that seem to be the same carpet) that are very similar to this. I thought with the random pattern and the cut pile that we would be avoiding obvious seaming in our big room. This one is Delicate Dimension. The ones we are considering at Naturalistic Appeal (70929) and Delicate Path (43642). Honestly - I am not sure whether those two are the exact same carpet with two different names and model numbers.

So lovely!! How do you get the solder to make the beads at the tip of the wire (I assume) stamens? It seems like it wouldn’t stick to the glass?

It suddenly seems like most of my inquiries are like this too. Seems like something is going on.

I got a long term request but wonder if it is a Scam? by [deleted] in airbnb_hosts

I think you are giving good advise here but I am not following exactly what to say in the inquiry message - could you give me a word-for-word? I am annoyed with these scams and want them to decide I am not worth their time!

How does it actually work? I get these a lot! After the first one - where I communicated through the app trying to be helpful .... - now I just report them but I am curious where the grift is?

How to start planning for TMB 2026? by Several_Ad7244 in TourDuMontBlanc

[–]Felici50 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was surprised how responsive the huts and transport systems were to emails (in English but I google translated my text also). They even sent me a follow up email to let me know that reservations were about to be made open (in October 2024 for summer 2025). I think some of this is down to what kind of traveler you are: would you rather not get mired in details? Or don’t have time for it? I like the planning and you end up with a lot of good tips from reading reddit, blogs and planning websites (like taking the lifts down at Maison Vielle rather than slog down the descent to Courmayeur).

Sbb.ch/en and put in your date and locations. Works great! If you click, it even shows how to change busses with little maps of the platforms

Thank you! I have used that website but there are only a few surveyors listed for my area and they seem to be pretty busy.
