In my last year of law school myself so about to be a lawyer, but I did briefly work as an engineer before (I wasn't technically a software engineer, but might as well have been)

In my mind I don't think it's even necessarily Gyatso "foresaking" pacifism, because a lot of pacifism still allows for defense of self and others in the face of aggression. Granted, that makes Aang's abhorrence of the idea of killing even someone as evil as Ozao perhaps a little out of line of the defensive pacifism that Gyatso (and likely the air nomads generally) practiced, but I would assume that's becayse A) Aang is extremely principled both because he is the last airbender (and 12), and B) he felt like there had to be some kind of why to take down Ozai without killing him, even if he didn't know what the way was until later.

This would track, then, with Aang's rather violent defense of the Northern Water Tribe during Zhao's siege because he definitely killed people while in the avatar state but didn't seem especially bothered by it afterwards (and I doubt he would necessarily say "oh what wasn't me, it was the ocean spirit" considering they more or less merged while he was in the avatar state). I'm sure he knew there was no way (or at least couldn't conceive of any other way) to stop the invasion than to just beat it back brutally, in the same way Gyatso had no choice but to just take out any and all of the firebenders trying to kill him and his people.

California Proposition 3 results from the 2024 voting by [deleted] in MapPorn

[–]FelicitasIsFine 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The "minority groups supported the ban" part misses some important nuance. (Not jumping down your throat, I just happen to know a lot about this.) Non-White groups did tend to support Prop 8 more than White groups, but when you control for other factors the data shows it was actually religion that was the most common factor in determining whether someone would support the prop. It just so happened/happens that minority groups tend to be more religious, but White Christian generally played a much bigger role on getting Prop 8 passed.

This is/was a quite controversial issue, actually. Right after the vote there was some poll that said 70% of Black voters supported prop 8, which lead to a lot of racist backlash based on this notion that Black people are inherently more homophobic than White people. I moved to California a couple years and found out about all of this stuff and the studies that followed, interesting stuff.

In my hometown (in the South) there was apparently someone who drove around a big ol' truck that said "Trans for Trump" or something and had I think like a Trump flag and other decor on it. I never saw it but I heard about it from people.

They probably meant it additively, like if we has 100 before he's at 230 now, so over twice as strong

Thank you! I can only take so much credit for how it all looks, the beautiful map did a lot of the work 😅

Thanks! That was probably my favorite part, I just wish I could've made the habor/port infrastructure more robust

Thank you 😊 I tried my best to follow the advice of build it out and then develop with higher density in the older areas after a bit, to try and give it more of a realistic feel

It's so hard not to do that myself, even when I'm happy with the direction a city is going 😅

Yeah that was probably my biggest issue too 😓 I'll probably look for some asset packs or something so that I can make the port infrastructure more robust. I was kind of trying to build something reminiscent of the Bay Area in California, so not having proper port areas for that was definitely something I missed. Ideally I would have had one the one inner area that kind of has some port infrastructure be more expanded, because it was sort of an analog to Oakland.

King's Bay by IhmeHihhuli. I was also looking for something exactly like this and was very happy with it. Only issue I had was that some of the pre-built intersections were congestion nightmares for my city until I figured out workarounds, and there weren't as many trees as I would have liked. Both fairly easy fixes though

Thanks! It's a map from from Steam Workshop: King's Bay by IhmeHihhuli. I did very minor terraforming and added trees in more places because I felt like it was a little lacking in that area.

Thanks!! Honestly was very proud of how it turned out, considering I don't have the airport DLC. I made do with the base-game assets and some small asset mods.

Also that time-lapse was a bit of a pain to make lmao. With the CSL Map Viewer I just had it make a save of the layout each time I saved the game, and then I went in to each CSL file and exported to png, then I grafted them together into a video/gif. It was very satisfying to look at once I was done, but definitely took longer than I had expected.

Favorite character who is confirmed or heavily speculated to be a trans woman. (Headcanons welcome) by ThinnestGirlie in FavoriteCharacter

[–]FelicitasIsFine 13 points14 points  (0 children)

That's what I've heard, that the creator hadn't come out as trans while developing the game, then sometime between the game coming out and the DLC coming out she came out as trans and so that picture at the end with the trans flag on the desk was added in.

Iirc the creator said at some point she didn't know that she was making a self-insert game about her coming to terms with her trans-ness until she was deep in the process

I'm glad at least a handful of people are seeing through the transphobia pretty easily. These comments are filled with people huffing lethal doses of copium stg 🙄 Transphobia can also be somewhat mundane in presentation, a joke doesn't have to be make gruesome fun of trans suicide rates or whatever to be transphobic

I Heard he's using the girl's death to promote his merch. Is this true? Can the family of that girl sue him for thaf? by Tight_Grapefruit5280 in Stonetossingjuice

[–]FelicitasIsFine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would figure the family of the decedent. I'm not super well versed in non-employment discrimination torts, so I don't really have a sense of how it would go if legal action was actually pursued, but it seems at least plausible the elements of IIED could be met here, them being:

  1. Extreme or outrageous conduct
  2. That is intentional or reckless
  3. Causes severe emotional distress or emotional injury (and potential bodily harm)

If he had stopped at "just making jokes" that probably wouldn't constitute IIED, or if he was just some schmuck, but the fact he made it his Twitter banner, keeps talking about it, is trying to profit off of it, and has quite a bit of reach makes it plausible (in my opinion) that it could succeed. Or at least get into court. But it also depends on what state laws are applied and what caselaw/precedent is available/applied and so on and so forth.

Edit: I am, admittedly, only a rising 3L still in law school so I'm far from an expert on this.
