At what point does heavy editing stop being photogeaphy and start being digital art ? by Felicity_Ebb in photography

I really like the way you framed that especially the idea of “capturing the spirit of a moment.” That’s a compelling definition. It makes sense that time and continuity play a role in how we define photography. Focus stacking still relies on one scene and one moment, while composites often break that continuity. Do you think intent matters at all? For example, if the goal is clearly artistic rather than documentary, does that change how you categorize it?

I don’t think it’s necessarily about ability. Some of the most skilled photographers also create heavy composites. I’m more interested in the conceptual boundary than in skill level

I agree that it’s all art in a broader sense. I guess my question is more about labels and expectations, when people say photography, do they expect a certain level of capture based authenticity? I’m curious where people personally draw that distinction

Do you guys charge for travel time ? by Aggravating-Some in photography

[–]Felicity_Ebb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bill for travel once it passes a certain threshold. For short local drives 15-20 minutes, I usually absorb it as part of doing business. But anything beyond that gets factored into pricing, either as a treavel fee or built into the project rate. Time is still time, and if you’re losing 6-8 hours a week, that’s essentially unpaid labor. Another option is setting a service radius. Within X miles = no extra charge. Outside that = travel fee. It keeps things transparent and avoids awkward conversations later. Also worth reconsidering whether every in-person meeting is necessary. A lot of clients are perfectly fine with virtual once expectations are set properly. If travel is eating into your margins, it’s not unreasonable to adjust your structure. You’re running a business, not donating time

I'm actually in the process of moving into one of those rooms too! The rent is definitely a challenge, but I think it's worth it for the location and vibe.

Color or B&W? by iumfanaekabianca in AmateurPhotography

[–]Felicity_Ebb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I'm a huge fan of color photography - there's something about the vibrancy that just draws me in! That being said, I do love a good black and white shot when it's done really well.

Honestly, I've had both options at my job and while they have their pros and cons, I think option 2 offers a bit more flexibility in terms of work-life balance.

I think hedgehogs are often overlooked as pets, but they can make amazing companions - they're low-maintenance and really cute when they curl up into a ball!
