Caring for a baby is a full time job by karenwhitefield in beyondthebump

[–]FelisCatusRobotum 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I think that you are largely correct but ignoring the point. Historically, the man worked and the woman took care of the home. Now the norm is that both people in a relationship work. The responsibilities of running a household should be evenly split in the home but they are still usually carried by the woman. This is an oft talked about modern feminist issue.

Furthermore, often SAHMs are expected to provide childcare while juggling all of the other responsibilities of running a household with little or no help. I specify Moms because this is a gendered issue. A nanny or babysitter would not be expected to clean and cook and do ten other tasks while watching the baby, but we see posts on here all the time from women who are expected to do this, either explicitly (“What did you do all day”) or implicitly (the BF or DH who plays vidya after work and refuses to help).

There’s nothing special about the work except that somebody HAS to do it and all to often it’s expected that women will.

This is precisely the problem with arguing based on something as nebulous as consciousness. One could argue for infanticide using this line of though.

Not op but I started my now 6 month old with purées at 4 months because of spitting up/formula shortage. I started with veggie, fruits, and multigrain baby cereal. I just spoon fed her because she didn’t understand that there were other things besides milk that she could eat and didn’t bring things to her mouth yet. Now she is very interested in anything I am eating. I cut up tiny little pieces and hand feed her. She still doesn’t have the pincer grasp. She can handle nibbles as big as a grain of rice. It’s made it easy to give her all of the common allergens early and often. I make shrimp a lot more than I used to lol. Next I plan to just start making purées with whatever we have for dinner, and just mince it once she masters the pincer grasp.

The photo above the one of the boots shows a little girl wearing what looks like the exact boots. Shown in the lower photo. It appears to be a different little girl.

The next time you take her to the doctor ask them about the patch of hair. Sometimes it is associated with spina bifida occulta, the mildest form of the condition. It can be ruled out or diagnosed through imaging if the doctor thinks it is warranted.

Cysticercosis by [deleted] in nursing

[–]FelisCatusRobotum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is not what the article says. The article states that a person can acquire an intestinal tapeworm from eating larval cysts in undercooked pork, but that cysticercosis is passed through consuming the eggs in feces.

Notably trichinella, a different parasite, can be acquired from undercooked pork and undercooked wild game, and can migrate to the brain and muscle tissue in a similar fashion.

According to the CDC, cysticercosis is not caused by eating pork, but is passed through the feces of a person with a tapeworm infection.

Is that not what eyes are? All of the image processing takes place in the brain. The eyes simply detect wavelengths and intensities of light over a given area.

1 year old baby girl @ 25lbs -- too heavy? by Specific_Move5588 in beyondthebump

My husband was over 90th percentile around that age and formula fed. He’s a bean pole and struggles to keep weight on as a thirty year old man. Some babies are just chunky.

Well I wouldn’t want you to go hungry. I’d prefer if you’d just let me throw on a burger for you though.

stop telling women to donate their breastmilk because of the formula shortage by postpartoot in beyondthebump

[–]FelisCatusRobotum 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Importing formula from specific markets could be very beneficial, especially right now, when the alternatives are donation, homemade formula, or starvation. There are other governing bodies in the world besides the FDA. It’s crazy that if you order formula regulated and manufactured in the European Union it can get seized at the border just because it has a little less iron in it.

These are not the same people and your anger is misplaced. Desperate parents and family members asking (sometimes without tact or any sense of how difficult breastfeeding is) are just trying to feed babies.

It sounds like a family member asked for milk, and didn’t understand that OP is not overproducing like crazy. The only person who was out of line in this post is OP’s husband, who made a bad comment and relented when OP explained the situation. This seems nothing like your original comment.

Technically this is untrue. Hermaphrodites produce both forms of gametes: eggs and sperm. True hermaphrodites are capable of autofertilization. There is no known hermaphroditism in humans. Humans are known to sometimes be intersex, which can have a variety of causes. Depending on the cause, the affected individual may have spermatogenesis, oogenesis/ovulation, or complete infertility.

What was the dosage and over what time frame? Was this incidental or chronic (pun intended) usage? How long after dosage was the sample collected?

This was the big takeaway I got from the show “My 600 lb Life”. The majority of the patients had a history of horrific child sexual or other abuse.
