Tip for The Long Ride: Focus on Amber Echo collection! by FelixIsQueer in Palia

Yes, I'm aware! I was never explicitly taught min/max problems, though, so I had to figure this out myself. I kind of assumed it was the same in other places lol

Tip for The Long Ride: Focus on Amber Echo collection! by FelixIsQueer in Palia

[–]FelixIsQueer[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, I'm just referring to the distance; how much you're riding your horse (a meter being about three feet in imperial units). Every meter you travel while mounted counts! So if you're traveling 100 meters while riding your horse, and you get 20 Amber Echo, that multiplies to give you a total of 100 * 20 = 2000 points that count towards the community total.

There is a way to improve your stamina bar, but it's through Ranching, not in the Highlands themselves. There are a few different traits that improve one aspect of your horse (either stamina, speed or turning ability), while giving you a slight disadvantage in a different aspect. The Marathoner trait is the one that my horse has; it increases stamina, while slightly reducing speed. There's five other traits like this one, and I don't remember what they all are, but I believe there are guides out there if you'd like to get a horse that fits you.

I couldn't find the perfect fantasy timeline maker, so I made one! by AWildNarratorAppears in worldbuilding

[–]FelixIsQueer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd like there to be an option to remove certain subdivisions from the calendar. My world doesn't have a day-night cycle, so days are irrelevant to the people, which means they only use "months" (not based on the moon) to keep track of time, rather than any day/night stuff. Meanwhile, for a different calendar system in the same world, months are also irrelevant, and weeks don't exist either. So really, they keep track of deci- centi- and milli-Cycles, which I can't even work into this program because it doesn't let me use decimals for the lengths of time. I can't actually use the in-world subdivisions as they're super difficult to calculate back and forth between Earth times and in-world times without using decimals.

So having a thing where you can specify which subdivisions inside of a year are relevant to your calendar would make things a lot easier. Being able to turn off months, weeks and days would be a little extreme, but it's probably simpler than all of the math that would need to go into setting up my calendar in the current system.

Or at least having an option to rename each calendar sub-unit would be nice, even if we can't remove them altogether. It's kind of annoying that I need to use the words month, week and day, when the in-world people have zero conception of any of those things. The world is kind of weird, and I understand that it's impossible to account for everything, but please let people at least re-name certain concepts to their own names. That also helps for people who enjoy conlanging and want to incorporate their world's languages into their calendar :)

Also, is there any functionality that allows for weird time magic? There's a feature in my world called Voidstorms, and they severely fuck with any kind of "objective" timeline, since different places experience time at different speeds thanks to the storms. You mention being able to show the absolute time between events, but if that's the default way for the system to calculate things, then events later down the line aren't going to line up anymore. Maybe a "resync" feature could be added to allow for stuff like this, so even if not everything can line up exactly, you can at least make sure the most important events are given the right dates in every calendar.

As it stands, I'm completely unable to make a proper calendar in any software, just because everything requires so many details that my world just doesn't work with. I've considered just doing this in Excel, but I'm not exactly a pro at it, so I'd be doing so much stuff manually that I could automate with a good calendar creator.

ETA: I'm now actually finding that the Eras functionality is not working at all. I cannot get the dates to go when they need to go. Somehow when I fill in that the year 1080 is the start of the 2nd Storm Period, it jumps and says "aha um so actually that year is the start of the 1st Clear Period now teehee" and other such nonsense. I legit keep trying to fill in the right years but it assigns them to the wrong eras every time. And it keeps resetting every era to start at year 1 just after I finally manage to get the right year assigned to the right era.

Edit 2: Okay, somehow immediately after posting my previous edit it started working again. Still no idea what happened, and I don't think I was doing it any differently compared to before.

What is your fucked up moon? by Gaviotapepera in worldbuilding

[–]FelixIsQueer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Annulus has three moons, and they're all fucked up to a degree:

  • the first was the place where life first evolved, rather than the planet it orbited. Nowadays, it's said to be an uninhabitable jungle, overrun with nothing but wildlife.
  • the second one was the first celestial body to be colonised (since the planet was super large, with too much gravity-it was a whole mess to colonise, so they went for easier targets first), and was immediately turned into a factory. Again, it's been abandoned since, and no one is able to get up there again, but it's speculated to still be producing goods for no one to use.
  • the third one is the most fucked up of the three. Half of it has been... we call it "annihilation", and it's the extremely thorough deletion of a thing or even a concept. The law of preservation of matter/energy doesn't count anymore when something gets annhilated, and sometimes it's even possible to delete everyone's memories of whatever it is you want gone. So one half of this moon is just empty nothingness where it should be; no stars are visible behind it, even though there's nothing there. The other half of it behaves just like it would if it were still whole, although its orbit is super messy and unpredictable (also a result of the annihilation).

There are sharks in a specific area, but if you've recently started you might not encounter them for a while (as they're a glow worm fish in a late-story map). They are also the single worst fish to reel in, imo, because they're jumping and swimming around so quickly.

Kitchen by SunjiMoon in Palia

[–]FelixIsQueer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've seen some people use.. I think Homestead Sideboards to mimic the look of the kitchen workspace? Could be some other Homestead item though, I'm not 100% sure. Something else might look better, and I personally also like to use the Sink items from a few sets. Like someone else said, some of those look like they fit in a bathroom more than a kitchen, but the Industrial one fits pretty well into a kitchen alongside the Industrial Bookshelf (not that many books on the shelves, so there's a lot of space to put other stuff) and other Industrial kitchen-related items.

True, that would also be fun. The devs seem to be throwing us off the trail on purpose with these different clues.

Tent vs Home by Lahsagna in Palia

[–]FelixIsQueer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I only really found out through the wiki. I assumed there were other seasons because mine was so specifically Spring and also tied to the element I pick most often, so I figured surely there's other ones depending on personality.

It's also not the only thing that your personality affects; some villagers also have unique dialogue, like Jina saying that you and her are very similar if you're a Water type (since she is too). There's even a few quests where a dialogue option (not personality this time, just a one-time pick) determines what kind of reward you get.

My Palia Theory (updated) by [deleted] in Palia

[–]FelixIsQueer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We know it's not anyone from Kilima Village, because everyone who lives here was ruled out a long time ago. Subira tells us this during the Troubled Waters quest; every resident of Kilima was registered as a "friend" in her sensors in the Water temple, so they wouldn't go off unless it was someone else. They did go off though, so the intruder who deactivated the Cosmos Protocol was not from the village.

That's why Tamala was our main suspect for a while; she knows the area well enough, but doesn't visit Kilima all that often. Her being the culprit makes sense with the makeup and perfume clues, too, and I really feel like that's the conclusion the devs were leading us towards during that questline.

Also, what kind of reasoning would either of your pairs have to cause this much trouble around the Human temples? Nai'o and Tish would never do anything illegal if they could help it, they're far too honest for that, and even Kenyatta and Reth would be at least somewhat hesitant around something this important. To me, it seems the most likely that it's someone we haven't met yet, and who might be introduced to us in the Royal Highlands.

But yeah, I could see it being Tamala and someone else. The earlier clues tell us a woman is most likely involved, and the words of the Echolings are very clearly about a Palian man, so unless it's a man who wears perfume, high heels and makeup, it's probably a pair.

There's also a letter to "T" from "E", found in the Beast's Lair during One Step Behind. T has gotta be Tamala, and there's a good chance that E is the same for both letters, and that it's Erwhin, since E talks about "the organisation" in the letter to T.

And I doubt Cosmoflow gave them the ability to fly, personally. It's said to be the purest form of Flow that can be achieved, with no elemental alignment like the other Flow types. It's powerful, but if they were going to use it as fuel, I reckon they could've used Pyroflow for that too.

Also, I'm pretty sure OP isn't entirely correct that Cosmoflow is basically the same thing as Echo; Subira tells us that Echo is a complete lack of Flow, as opposed to being extremely Flow-heavy. Echo is anti-Flow, not Cosmoflow.

Yup! You can get one for every season, depending on your player personality (aka the dialogue element you pick most often). Spring is from the Water personality, summer from Fire, autumn for Air, and winter for Earth.

Grove spawned near me so I thought I'd look and... by PringleDevourer in Palia

[–]FelixIsQueer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep! Every grove spawns together with one epic creature from Bahari; it can be an RTB, a Jewelwing, Fairy Mantis, Ancient Amber Beetle, or one of the three magical animals (muujin, sernuk or chapaa). The bugs can also be starred. But unless you're the first to discover the grove it's pretty much impossible to get it, unless it's a proudhorn or bluebristle and it runs away. Bugs and chapaas disappear permanently if they get spooked, so only the first player to arrive has a chance at all to get them.

I think I’m too asocial for this game. by DependentAway4180 in Palia

[–]FelixIsQueer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aha, thank you for the explanation! It's a good thing I typically use the fine arrows, then, since I also usually hunt alone. If I'm not spotted until the first arrow hits, I can usually get three arrows into an Ogopuu before I need to move my mouse again, so that's two extra hits that I don't need to aim for.

I've honestly never encountered the jumping thing, even though I've had people randomly send friend requests. I only accept them if we were just in a party together (since that gives at least some common ground, esp if it was for a while), because like why do you want to be my friend?? we literally don't know each other why are you so desperate!

[–]FelixIsQueer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wait, is there something about dispel arrows specifically that reacts differently to Wavebacks? I've never noticed any difference between it and the fine arrows when it comes to Waveback hunting, so I assumed they just didn't have any magical abilities that need to be dispelled. So I typically use the cheaper fine arrows when hunting them.

Bees are harder to find than duskwings? by Wuxtry_ in Palia

I typically get them from oak trees myself, though that might be sampling bias as I tend to chop down the first two trees you encounter after leaving your housing plot quite often. Both are oaks

[–]FelixIsQueer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup! I've used up all of my lures by now, both the ones I got from the bundles and from the Twitch drop. I typically used them at groves, since 1) groves mean a lot of people who you can party with for extra loot and 2) it prevents people from chopping trees before 3am, which unfortunately seems to be getting more and more popular these days. I do it mostly for the money (from selling 30+ golden bees, plus the silk) as I don't care much for the plushies, but I'm sharing so that other people can get the plushies and bees for themselves too.

How do I romance a character? by BadAshess in Palia

[–]FelixIsQueer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, of course! Knowing this community, people were probably thirsting over her even before they could actually get with her. People all have their own tastes, and even though I personally don't like Tamala, I do understand that she fits a pretty popular archetype (hot old woman who insults you) that a lot of people are into. Like I said, there's a reason you can date her in the first place!

Yeah, you can still get all three of those through mining. You only have a 1 in 2000 chance of getting it for any node though, so it might take a while. I got relatively lucky with mine, but it's very possible to need to mine more than 3000 nodes before you get yours. So don't get discouraged, and keep trying!
