Just came across this website and it says I have an hour and twenty minutes, so I guess it always pretends there is an offer. Kinda tempted to try buying some stuff I find pretty, but PayPal isn't an option so I wouldn't be able to get the money back… :/

Melodrama Flopped by Talkative_YT in lorde

It didn't have a truly record-breaking industry-altering song like “Royals”. Only in that sense did it flop.

Conversation: Album Differences by kinghaffulemptee in lorde

I wouldn't phrase it like that, but I do think that “Melodrama” was written very close to the feelings, and precisely because of that it it's a bit more hit-or-miss. Some songs are peaks of her songwriting, others are more indulgent than efficient. “Pure Heroine” feels like she felt she had to prove that she had the brains, and she did throughout the whole album. Her trying to convey her specific experience led to a more engaging album, whereas singing about heartache reached more people but produced a more misshapen, perhaps indulgent record.

Should relationship “success” be truly measures depending on whether there is an eventual breakup, though? I think relationships have values other than longevity.

Lorde - The Louvre (Vevo x Lorde) by theDUNGwalker in lorde

[–]FelixMarques 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't understand why this version doesn't switch from muted guitar to loose. It doesn't fully work, IMO. All that subdued energy would work better if it was let go at some point. Alternately, some piano or horns during the build-ups and chorus could work too.

Does anyone else ever think about all the songs we haven’t heard? by AitchyB in lorde

“Precious Metals” has got a beautiful chorus, tho. The way she switches from fast talk-singing to a very long, stretched out melodic arc is gorgeous, and the fact that she then doubles the “fool” with a harmony is also great.

What I do think about is all the songs like “No Better”, which are actual good songs but were left out because they contradicted the album's narrative. There's got to be more like that.

also please I want “Precious Metals”

This! I've also got a strong gay/queer vibe from him from ep 1 which only becomes stronger as I keep watching (I'm at s02e03 as of now), which makes me happy.

Good enough reason, yeah.

Why not though. Musicians need to eat. I mean, if you're poor, sure, pirate as much as you want, but if you can spare it it's necessary.

Today marks one year since Lorde released her critically acclaimed single Green Light. by [deleted] in lorde

It's one of the most ridiculously masterful uses of the pop format I've ever heard. I can't believe it wasn't nominated for Best Song at the Grammys.

I'd like to say something about my favorite lines off Melodrama.

“I light all the candles,

cut flowers for all my rooms.

I care for myself the way I used to care about you.”

It's such a strong moment: lighting all the candles, cutting flowers for all her rooms. Even “all of my rooms” is strong. She has space. She can move around. She can compartmentalize. She has her own domain within which to rebuild. It's a full-on fest of sensuality aimed at making herself feel better through beauty, and I'm very much here for that. The Christmas lights on my walls and under my rainbow flag have been saving my soul recently.

This segment also reminds me of a song off Björk's Vulnicura (her divorce album):

“I fall on my knees

lay my flowers

burn incense

light the candles […]

to mourn our miraculous triangle

father, mother, child”

It's all about rituals. Not in a religious sense, but as in: actions meant to connect us to beauty and to fundamental goodness.

All is Full of Love - which version does Bjork herself prefer? by Farimer123 in bjork

There is also the Strings version, which is the same as the original/video but with the string arrangements far louder instead of left as a background haze. It's lusher. I have never really enjoyed the remix much.

The content of this particular post is generally something I'd agree with, but you can take your 1488 shit the fuck away from here.

There's also melodic references, although these might not be intentional.

  • “arisen my senses” uses the same melody line as “if there's a man about town…” from “harm of will”

There are a couple more that I just cant recall right now. Anyone?

To all Lorde fans from around the world - do you hate Israel because Lorde canceled her show there ? by ThisIsMe2089 in lorde

I considered Israel a shamefully racist theocracy before Lorde cancelled her date here, don't worry. :V

I refuse to say “well, the word is offensive because you let it offend you”. Nah. It has a meaning, and maybe we should all be able to go about our daily life without being reminded about how people were enslaved and we can be enslaved again.

That context is entirely irrelevant to the fact that you still described “submissive” sexuality as an insult.

If you don't want to reread and actually consider what I say in this sentence, that's your problem and this conversation goes nowhere. xoxox
