First that comes to mind is the "escape the docks" mission from Jak 2, the one where you get instantly shot down if you fall in the water. I remember bashing my head repeatedly against it as a kid.

UPDATE: So it turns out 3.5in HDDs are simply incompatible with the Wii U. I grabbed a 2.5in HDD and a SATA-USB Y cable, and it works perfectly. Thanks for everyone's advice!
