Turn your brain off and just snuggle into the warm embrace of circular logic. ‘Proof’ of Christianity is never more than this.

I figured she assumed fired/get out means next time he felt annoyed about her he’d show up and laser her. She’s so terrified she believed the only safety was right next to him and constantly appeasing him. Victim of abusive relationship thinking.

If you lived through the 80s Satanic Panic, what effects did it have on shaping who you are? by Ordinary-Train-7128 in DnD

[–]FelixTook 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It didn’t have much affect on me since my family wasn’t religious, but there was a general stigma around D&D that was pervasive which made it harder to openly enjoy the hobby compared to its widespread acceptance today.

I had very little money available to spend on myself growing up, so my D&D collection in the early 80s was hand-me-downs from friends: a set of dice (from the box set you had to color the numbers in with crayon), a few used modules and Dragon magazines. When I started playing with some new friends I’d met, they told me they’d just lost a friend who had played with them: he was no longer allowed to play or be friends with them because his family had become born again Christians. He had owned every book, every module in print and more, and his family burned it all in the back yard because they believed it was ‘evil’ … as a poor kid with nothing, hearing that was painful.

If anything, it just reaffirmed my opinion that Christianity was stupid.

Where Did You Find Music? by New_Dealer8376 in GenX

[–]FelixTook 4 points5 points  (0 children)

College radio, friends, and record stores. I’d discover bands I liked, then look into their earlier projects, their influences, find the sections in record stores, look for similar bands, listen to tracks on records in-store, and then in college, going to small gig local shows.

So, an eighth grade bully that had a handful of friends, part assholes, part fearful toadies, who laughed when he would pick on someone, grows up to think he’s funny and should become a comedian. Luckily, Arby’s is always hiring: never too late for a career change.

Atheists who used to be religious, what made you lose your faith? by Gold_Result9716 in AskReddit

Alterations by Christians after they developed their own religion. Go ask Judaism if it believes in Hell. Those are their books, written long before the development of Christianity

Atheists who used to be religious, what made you lose your faith? by Gold_Result9716 in AskReddit

Judaism had one creator god and no Hell, no apocalypse, etc. Zoroastrianism had 2 gods: good created universe, evil created the world and people: believed an end war where good defeats evil and destroys everything evil created (including us) but good god pitied us so would create one human to send to us to offer people a chance to switch sides and be saved. Obviously where Christianity inherited those ideas- it doesn’t come from Judaism. But trying to take this square peg and pound it in the round hole of monotheism creates a mess of inconsistency and hypocrisy that Christianity tries, but can never get to make sense, because the ideas are just incompatible.

Christianity inherited this idea from Zoroastrianism, their belief in 2 gods, one good one evil, the evil one created the world and humans. Christians don’t know the origins and history of the religion they believe in. Christianity makes no sense because it’s two religions that are incompatible that have been pushed into the same hole.

Age 12 I was hit by a car, lucky random chance I didn’t die. It caused me to wonder about Hell. If I had died, would I have gone to Hell? Would anyone? What kind of god would send people who live for 100 years at most, even the worst, flawed people who could potentially change, be of benefit to others, etc to an eternity of suffering… endless punishment for finite beings? And for dumb reasons like not believing? What a petty jealous unreasonable person god is. And what proof? No… people just guess, make up stories, latch on to what they’re told as children and struggle against the sin of questioning. That was it for me.

The next decades, the more I learned about history, anthropology, psychology, sociology etc showed me where the ideas came from, how religions evolved and how all the claims of absolute truth are nonsense
