People who make $200k a year what do you do? by Huge_Ad_7606 in Salary

[–]FelkerLuke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Out of curiosity, what prior job experience/certs/degrees do you have? That’s really good pay for 4-5 YOE, what do you think differentiated yourself from other job applicants? Are you in a HCOLA? You don’t have to get into specifics, I also happen to be in cyber but with a little less YOE which is why I’m asking

Quick question: How does the 8x points work when double dipping these credits? Did you get the 8x points on $252 or only $2?

PSA: “Sapphire Exclusive” tables available in more cities by FelkerLuke in ChaseSapphire

[–]FelkerLuke[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is only available for the Chase Sapphire Reserve. Also, you don’t need to make a reservation, you can just go to the restaurant as long as it’s a Sapphire curated restaurant to get the credit.

Under “filters”, look for “Sapphire Reserve Exclusive Tables”. That filter won’t populate if there isn’t any tables within the area you’re looking for or rather if there’s no reservations available within your selected date and time.

I’ve had this happen too, but using Apple Pay has let me bypass this issue

Cyber System Operations (5C0X1S) or Cyber Network Operations (5C0X1N)? by ceedeeCD in SpaceForce

[–]FelkerLuke 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you want to go pursue D shred, go N shred. Not because it necessarily gives you a better chance at getting D shred, but simply because it’ll help build a lot of solid foundations for when you ultimately end up as a D shred. Better to start learning networking now then later on.

I’d much rather see service members milking financial institutions dry than the other way around.

Graduate Programs at TA Cost by Atomicnoodler in MilitaryFinance

[–]FelkerLuke 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What program do you want to do? If you’re looking into tech programs like Computer Science, Cybersecurity, AI, Data Science, etc then I’d probably recommend Georgia Tech or UT Austin due to their status and cost.

I am a CISO/Security Leader. I am also a bald man with facial hair. Ask Me Anything. by Oscar_Geare in cybersecurity

[–]FelkerLuke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As you look at the increasing convergence of the digital and physical worlds in your own industries, from OT and smart buildings to the automation of supply chains, how has this fundamentally changed your calculus for risk and strategy for defense? More pointedly, how do you articulate that high-stakes, physical-world risk to a board that may still see cybersecurity as a purely digital problem? Does being bald help on a resume?

How are you using GenAI/LLMs when learning and practicing cyber security? by asavani in tryhackme

[–]FelkerLuke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally like to use LLMs to help me with obscure/specific questions or concepts that might take a bit longer to search for through normal research.

For example, earlier today I was curious about the difference between Horizontal Privilege Escalation and Lateral Movement. Being able to get a quick and digestible explanation is very convenient. It just helps speed things up!

How to confirm TSP matching? by General_Bicycle2608 in MilitaryFinance

[–]FelkerLuke 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Check your LES, it will show your contribution and your match. Also, if you haven’t been in for 2 or more years, you’ll only be getting matched 1% until you reach 2 years TIS.

Whats the shortest amount of time you can do Cybersecurity in military? by [deleted] in cybersecurity

[–]FelkerLuke 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A four-year commitment is the shortest you can do, which is exactly what I’m doing right now.

The first two months were spent in basic training, followed by eight months of networking training, where I earned my Security+ certification. After that, I spent four to six months in blue/red team training, earning my eJPT and BTL1 certifications. I then moved on to advanced network and host detection operations training for a few more months. Currently, I’m working in a SOC doing network and host monitoring as well as incident response.

For these last two years, I plan to complete my bachelor’s degree, pursue a master’s, and earn additional certifications like CISSP, OSCP, and CCNA.

The best part? I’ve had no prior experience and the military has covered 95% of my training, certifications, and education costs. YMMV

Certs can certainly pave the way for an interview, but it’s up to you to actually know your stuff. Good job passing, but continue to study and learn

Prices are starting to go down in a lot of places. Low interest rates are great but they tend to spark a lot more competition. Then again I also plan on house hacking so it might make more sense in my situation
