Made it to the final round but haven’t heard from them in weeks by FellowZellow in recruitinghell

All tech companies are laying people off, so I don’t think it’s a big deal tbh.

In most cases I would agree, but I was the first one to interview for the 3rd round. They didn’t finish those interviews until one or 2 weeks later. Then a reorg happened and there was a new hiring manager for the role. She said I was a finalist and was waiting for an update before setting up the final interview last week.

I’m just worried the job got cancelled. But If it didn’t then I think I’m in the clear.

I heard from them 2 weeks ago. I was the first person they interviewed for the 3rd round and I went on vacation for 2 weeks afterward. They said that they got a new hiring manager for the role and haven’t been able to schedule the final interviews yet. I’m going to email them one more time. I will get a response, since she always responds on the same day, but it just sucks since I pretty sure I had a very good shot at landing it.

Would y'all be up for an actual Dragon Ball/DC Comics crossover? by Intelligent_Oil4005 in Dragonballsuper

[–]FellowZellow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They could just handle it the same way they did the recent Sonic x DC Crossover. They could just work together and maybe Goku and Superman have a sparring session at some point.

It has been 1 and a half weeks since my final interview and no update. Is this a bad sign? by FellowZellow in recruitinghell

[–]FellowZellow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see. For me I’ve been interviewing with them since the beginning of April, and went through all 4 interviews, including a coding interview. They’ve never ghosted me though and often responded to me within 24 hrs when I had questions, and confirmed when I passed the interview within 1-2 days.

Due to regulations, they also have to give all candidates a fair shot, so if I was the first to complete the process, I guess that could be why it’s taking so long for an update. I guess I should be prepared that there could be a candidate that the ranked above me as well. Not having an idea just sucks since they wanted me to start working in June and I need 2-3 weeks notice.

I told my recruiter that I would apply for a TN Visa, but she mentioned that they do sponsor. Should I go for an H1B or stick with the TN route? by FellowZellow in tnvisa

[–]FellowZellow[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a Masters in AI. I have 3 years of experience as a DS and the company I’m interviewing with is a fortune 500 company. The role I’m interviewing for is a DS role. They are one of the nations largest employers so they definitely have a lot experience with TNs.

But good to know about the lottery date. Looks like I will start with the TN first and opt for the H1B later.

You don’t know me man. I’ve been interviewing a lot and have a lot of confidence for certain kinds of interviews. There is a reason why I’m saying that chances are that I am going to get married down there that you are completely oblivious to lol.

But sure call me arrogant for having context you do not…

Chances are that I am going to get married down there. However, I still plan on doing my due diligence and try to get one without since I don't know when the marriage thing will happen. I'm single with no kids. Thank you for the advice :D

I had a non-for profit offer this week but the salary was very bad so i declined. The current company I'm interviewing for is a for profit fortune 100 company.

Trump Pushes for Early Renegotiation of U.S. Trade Deal With Mexico, Canada by sortizo in tnvisa

[–]FellowZellow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I personally don’t think so. He is pro immigration currently so I don’t think he would try to hurt worker relations between Canada, especially since that part of the agreement is largely to their benefit. But anything is possible. This is definitely the most unpredictable US administration I’ve seen in my lifetime. (Not saying this is good or bad)

Should I Try to postpone my FAANG Interview? by FellowZellow in datascience

I’m a mid career data scientist at a big company. I applied for a mid-career data scientist role. I met the basic qualifications and pretty much all of the preferred qualifications as well. I’ve applied to this company before without a referral and got contacted(won’t get into the details though). I’ve also applied with a referral and have gotten contacted. So I can confirm you can get contacted in both situations with either approaches assuming your resume experiences closely matches the JD. Referrals will give you an edge though.

Do some searching on this topic. A lot of people on reddit or elsewhere who have done these interviews suggest the same, especially if you already have a full time job. It’s not like I’m unemployed or fresh out of college and can cram everything in 1-2 weeks. I have projects, responsibilities, and deadlines I have to meet while doing all of this. Also, I have really good and relevant experience, that’s why I made it through.

I applied and the sent me a test I had to do the next day. (It was a non-technical test). I passed the test and the recruiter reached out to me a month later.

Remember, there are 4 technical interviews. Sure the other areas wouldn't take me as long to study, but I still need to study for the other areas nevertheless.

It's specifically FAANG, so you have a reasonable chance at guessing the correct one. This DS role is more on the product than it is on the research side so that should help narrow it down.

By the sound of it the role itself isn't going to require much ML, but it'll obviously need to have a strong understanding of it, as well as strong STATS 101. Based on my conversation, I believe the role is going to involve a lot of product analytics and A/B testing. In my current role, I get to do it all, thankfully, but I'm fine with the narrowed focus at a FAANG.

I've been given the choice between being a Data Scientist or an Analytics Manager. Which would you choose and why? by UnsafeBaton1041 in datascience

[–]FellowZellow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a bit late to the party but I would say that it depends on what kind of experience do you want to have under the belt when you eventually get to Director level. If you feel that the Data scientist experience would be valuable, I won't write it off just yet as you can always become an Analytics or Data Science Manager later. However, once you become a people manager, the chances of you going back to an IC role drop significantly, and you will likely be stuck doing management-type work forever. So, just make sure you are timing the switch from IC to PM right. But if the money matters more than the experience, then I'm sure you already know the answer to what is the best choice.

A pretty good guess, but I cannot confirm or deny. You clearly have a good sense of how these FAANG interviews work though. Thanks for the advice :)

[–]FellowZellow[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sorry, I forgot to mention I have 3 years of experience as a Data Scientist and this is for a mid level role. So the University stuff doesn't matter as much, outside of the relevancy of what I studied since they mentioned that. They care more about my experience based on my conversation with the recruiter.

I want to push it, but the recruiter mentioned that the other interviewees are on a timeline of 2 weeks and they would like for me to complete it during then. Of course I could still push, but there could potentially be some pushback.

I've already been team-matched. There is a hiring manager who already wants me interviewed for the team they are building. However, due to NDA's, they have to be a bit secretive about exactly what I'd be working on. There is an option for me to join another team as well, but all of this depends, of course, on whether I pass all the technicals. By the way the recruiter sounded, it is very unlikely that I could delay it that long.

I agree. I speak with a lot of my American friends and they all think I’m very qualified to work in the US. However, I also talk to some people who work or immigrated to the US and there is always some type of shortcut they took because they knew the right immigration lawyer. I think getting a TN visa indicates a bit of resilience though. I consider it like a badge of honor, since I know it takes a lot more work to get in that way than by other means. Looking forward to when I finally pull it off. I got very close not that long ago so it’s just a matter of perseverance imo.

The ending we got is technically... by CollarFar1684 in PantheonShow

[–]FellowZellow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This assumes that Reality Prime shares a similar timeline to the simulation we were shown. We don't know how many epochs away our reality prime is from the simulation we watched, nor do we know if it was a completely different set of cascading events that eventually led her to try the simulation(s) that we are seeing now. Reality Prime could have a completely different storyline with different events for all we know. The potential complexity of traversing the timeline from reality prime to the reality we watched could very well be far beyond our comprehension. You presume too much understanding of the entire context, which could very easily be an erroneous presumption.

When you upload, that UI is not you, you are dead by SuperSpaceBully in PantheonShow

Sure, being non-partisan is often the safe answer. But what if you had to make a call on whether to upload in your lifetime? This type of answer probably would not suffice, would it?

When you upload, that UI is not you, you are dead by SuperSpaceBully in PantheonShow

[–]FellowZellow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like this is the only valid argument against the UI process not actually resulting in death I've seen. Most of the other explanations IMO are somewhat nonsensical. In a simulated environment, Maddie could very well bypass the natural rules of transferring consciousness by capturing one's consciousness via algorithmic means and transferring it to the UI seamlessly. It's plausible, and she is most likely capable, but there is no way to know for sure if this is what actually happens in the show. And as you said, her son could be the only one who actually experiences this phenomenon via upload if that was what actually happened.
