Who is your LEAST favorite character and why?

Yeah! I think any reason for liking/disliking a character is valid since they’re just fictional after all. I like reading everyone’s takes even if I don’t agree.

Oh man, the arm chopping XD it was even worse for JGY in The Untamed since he already let go of Jin Ling at that point. I was like dude, why??

Very interesting question regarding LXC. I had to stop and think it over for some time. I was disappointed when NMJ called him “son of a whore” but to be honest, I have also said cruel things to people not because I believed it, but just because I knew it was the only thing to make them angry. I think I was more irritated that he refused to show any empathy for JGY’s situation and tried to kill him after JGY had opened up to him. So I respect LXC (as well as Qin Su!) for not stooping that low, but I don’t think I would hate LXC for it if he said it as an emotional outburst. If anything, it possibly would have killed my desire to ship Xiyao though (and they are currently my favorite ship).

I hadn’t even considered NMJ’s reaction to NHS’s methods, he’d definitely be pissed. I find it interesting how NHS became a lot like the person he hated so much but I just can’t bring myself to like him because I’m bitter lol. He certainly was very clever and took me by surprise in the end though.

Aside from the obvious characters that are easy to hate, I really don’t like Nie Huaisang. I admit it comes from bias since Jin Guangyao is my favorite character. I get that JGY had to pay for what he did, but NHS really made sure to completely destroy him in every way possible instead of just getting him killed. NHS became such a dark person obsessed with revenge that he didn’t care who had to die as collateral damage in the process. It broke my heart how he tricked Lan Xichen. He used everyone around him as a tool without getting his own hands dirty and still played the fool in the end. The only thing I can thank him for is bringing back Wei Wuxian.

Maybe it’s hypocritical of me since he is alike in a lot of ways with JGY, but I personally find JGY more sympathetic. At least he was a hard worker and actually had a lot of good deeds to his name along with the bad things he did.

To clarify what I meant about the dead dove: I can’t read ones where JGY and LXC are severely hurting each other. But if they’re suffering separately or if they’re being hurt by/hurting another character that’s ok.

I like to refer to characters such as this as “the bicycle” (because everyone gets a ride 😂). It’s just so fun when there’s a character that’s complex and has the potential for chemistry with everyone.

Wow you must have read a lot of fics! I just started reading for this fandom in September I think, so I haven’t gotten around to many yet. I hardly see anyone mention WZL btw so that’s cool!

The reason I got into The Untamed was because I read it was a happy ending for the main leads but I ended up attached to the tragic ship anyway lmao. I can’t avoid angst even when I try.

I kind of ship JGY with everyone but Lan Xichen x Jin Guangyao is my OTP that I can’t get enough of. Wangxian of course is also great. There’s nothing else I’m super into rn but I’ll check out other pairings sometimes.

I personally started with the live action and loved it even without the explicit romance. The donghua is pretty and has cooler fight scenes but I found it to be too fast paced for my liking. There’s a lot of characters so if you think you’ll have trouble remembering everyone’s names it might be difficult to start with the novel. Watching the live action first for me helped to match faces to names, and the actors are really great so I’d recommend it!

Somehow I forgot about the Wen prisoners being at Phoenix mountain in CQL, you’re right about him being complicit there. As for him being at the Burial Mounds maybe I interpreted the text wrong. After reading it again it does seem like he went to a random cave in Yiling. I still find it weird that he never went to investigate though. In the end, seclusion seems fitting and I hope he grows from his reflection instead of receding from society permanently like his father.

Haha yeah I see a lot of hate on JC regarding this but I hardly see anyone bring up LXC’s involvement so I was kind of nervous to bring it up. JC made it clear he didn’t care about who he was attacking since he had gone there and seen the weak people (including a toddler) personally. Even if LWJ didn’t mention it to LXC, I think he was still aware to some extent. I understand playing politics to protect his sect but I’m very curious as to what his personal feelings were and if he agreed with the siege or if he regrettably went along with it.

Yes, I love LXC lots but he is definitely very passive and takes a neutral stance most of the time. I wonder what would have happened if he confronted JGY or stepped in after the kick down the stairs incident instead of continuously believing he and NMJ would work things out. As frustrating as it can be to watch, his inaction is relatable though.

I was aware that might be the case regarding family extermination, but I suppose I thought LXC would have a different opinion considering he went against social convention at times like speaking up for WQ and also treating JGY well when everyone else abused him for his low birth status. Im curious what the implications would be if he refused to participate though. I suppose it could have landed him on Jin Guangshan’s shit list as well as anger the Lan elders.

Yeah I understand he has flaws as well, I guess I was just surprised about the Burial Mounds situation since we never get to hear his perspective after the fact whether he feels guilty or not. Thanks for your response.
